Flash Game Frenzy #3:
Flash Game #7: Zee and the Alien Machine
Main Story: 32m 49s
Main + Extra: 35m 29s
Rating: 6/10
Date Completed: December 18, 2020
Armor Games Link: https://armorgames.com/play/11333/zee-and-the-alien-machine
Game Synopsis: Zee is throwing a party for his work friends in hopes of a promotion. Have Zee please his guests while also finding out who is an alien in disguise.
Blog: Zee and the Alien Machine(I will call this ZatAM from now on) is a typical point-and-click game.
The story is nothing special, it feels like it would be an episode on a show like Seinfeld or the Office. However, it does feel appropriate for the setting and what the game tries to accomplish there.
It can be a bit tricky at the beginning, but once you explore around some more it becomes significantly easy.
There's 3 major endings, all 3 endings can also have 6 different alien culprits. Even with that though, there's not much replay value with ZatAM. Once you play and beat it, that's it. You already know the answers to every solution. Which is a problem with point-and-clicks in general.

Flash Game #8: Blueprint 3D
Main Story: 17m 09s
Completionist: 35m 46s
Rating: 7/10
Date Completed: December 18, 2020
Armor Games Link: https://armorgames.com/play/12557/blueprint3d
Game Synopsis: A perspective-based puzzle game about making pictures out of a mess of lines.
Blog: Blueprint 3D is pretty fun! There's 2 different difficulties being Relax and Hard. They're both different in how they control, on Relax you just need to have your cursor in a specific spot where the picture lines up. On Hard you need to click-and-drag to get the picture in the right spot.
Despite it being called hard, I actually felt like I had an easier time with Hard's control scheme. Or at least I felt more comfortable. I almost feel as if the difficulties should be the other way around.
Also, the pictures are the exact same in both Relax and Hard. So if you're hoping for variety, there isn't any.
I still recommend giving it a try though.

Flash Game #9: Armor Mayhem
Main Story: 1h 06m 02s
Rating: 9/10
Date Completed: December 21, 2020
Armor Games Link: https://armorgames.com/play/10215/armor-mayhem
Game Synopsis: Companies go to galactic war over the opportunity to get a resource that gives an infinite supply of energy. Go head-to-head against other companies in various different challenges involving guns.
Blog: Armor Mayhem is pretty good! The music is good, the control scheme is good. I enjoy shooting all the AI enemies and unlocking different weapons with coins. I would recommend this game! There's even a stage builder, although I didn't use it at all.
I do want to say, despite doing the single player campaign; there's nothing about it that gives a nod to the story. You don't get anything except in-game achievements and the usual money at the end. I feel there should have been something!
Another thing is that the AI can be easily taken advantage of and it's not too difficult to overcome them in some of the challenges. It can be easy for the most part.

Game #16: Super Mario Maker
Platform: Wii U
Main + Extra: 6h 00m 23s
Rating: 10/10
Date Completed: December 20, 2020
Game Synopsis: Make your own Mario levels for others to play! Or play levels designed by other players!
Blog: Recently I heard news that on March 31, 2021 people will no longer be able to upload their own levels. After hearing that, I knew I wanted to have one last play of Super Mario Maker before losing a major aspect of the game. As it's truly a great game.
Super Mario Maker is one of those games where you absolutely need an internet connection to experience the full glory of what this game offers. There are a few things you can do without an internet connection that I'll get into later, but the online aspects are the meat of this game.
Super Mario Maker has a ton of great and awesome levels made by others online. Some are puzzles, some are movie action scenes, some of them can even be complete other games. Sure you're bound to find some levels that aren't great, but you can always just leave and look around some more for better quality levels.
Creating levels is nice and relaxing too. The Wii U gamepad being the perfect tool for this game. I've played the other versions like the 3DS version and the sequel on the Switch, but they don't feel as comfortable as the original does on the Wii U.
There's lots of things to do and unlock aside from simply playing levels. There's a lot of Amiibo costumes that you can unlock through various ways; the main way being through the 100 Mario challenges, challenges where you have to play through a bunch of levels made by others and you only have 100 lives. There's also various different difficulties so if easy is too easy you can go to normal, hard, and even very hard. Trust me, these levels are very difficult.
If there's one thing I could change about the game, I would make it so you can look up levels by name or by tags. If there's a specific level you want to find you have to have its Course ID, which isn't an awful system but I would like more search options.
By the way, if anyone would like to play the levels I've made, here's the course ID for the latest level I made called Triggers Are Key: D878-0000-0420-5238. I've made other levels years ago such as one based on Shovel Knight and another based on the Kirby Wispy Woods boss fight, but you can find them all by using that course ID and then clicking on my profile.
TL;DR: Super Mario Maker has so many great levels to discover from other creators, it also has a great level editing system that pairs well with the Wii U. It's a wonderful game.

Flash Game #10: This is the Only Level 3
Main Story: 9m 00s
Rating: 10/10
Date Completed: December 22, 2020
Armor Games Link: https://armorgames.com/play/12745/this-is-the-only-level-3
Game Synopsis: Help a blue elephant go through the same level multiple times.
Blog: This game is genius and super fun. It's not the longest game but it doesn't need to be.
The game is centered around the player essentially playing the "same" level over and over again, but with a different puzzle or mechanic each time.
I'd talk more about the game, but talking about the levels is giving away the solutions to the puzzles. So all I'll say is play it, it will be some of the most fun you'll have in a 10 minute timespan.

Flash Game #11: Epic Combo!
Main Story: 8m 53s
Rating: 8/10
Date Completed: December 22, 2020
Armor Games Link: https://armorgames.com/play/6677/epic-combo
Game Synopsis: Hit turtles with your hammer and try getting an epic combo!
Blog: Epic Combo is one of those arcadey style of games where you try to get a certain score as fast as possible or in the endless mode you try getting as high of a combo as you can get.
I only played the normal mode as I don't care about endless, but it's kinda fun. I like watching all of the turtles flying past and setting up things like lasers and mines to make a bigger score.
One problem is that it's insanely short in the normal mode. The maximum amount you can reach to win is 10,000. I felt like it should have been bigger, maybe 100,000 as I hit the cap pretty quickly and felt I didn't even scratch the surface what was possible.
It's good but I wish it was slightly longer.

Flash Game #12: Achievement Unlocked 3
Main + Extras: 1h 51m 43s
Rating: 9/10
Date Completed: December 22, 2020
Armor Games Link: https://armorgames.com/play/13196/achievement-unlocked-3
Game Synopsis: You're a blue elephant who's fallen into a hamster kingdom. Appease the king to let you leave.
Blog: Achievement Unlocked 3 is similar to Achievement Unlocked 2 in that there's lots of achievements in the game to get due to it being centered around achievements.
One thing that's different is that there's kind of a story, or at least a more understandable main goal other than gaining achievements. You've fallen into a kingdom of hamsters. The king hamster demands you get him 600 pellets from a vending machine, you can get coins for the vending machine by completing achievements and finding coins around the areas.
One problem that I've had now and again with this game is lag. I don't know what was going on but there were certain times where I lagged pretty heavily. I was able to fix the lag sometimes by refreshing the page, but only when it was really bad. Unfortunately it still lagged just a bit more afterwards.
Another thing is that sometimes things just didn't work, and this is specifically pointing towards spikes. Some of the achivements you can get have to do with spikes and killing yourself on a certain number of spikes. The spikes you've already killed yourself on are suppose to change to a different color. I say "suppose to" because it wouldn't always change color for whatever reason. Sometimes the spikes wouldn't even kill me as I stand right on them. It was very peculiar.
I still had fun though even with those issues.

Flash Game #13: Epic Combo Redux
Main Story: 15m 41s
Rating: 8/10
Date Completed: December 23, 2020
Armor Games Link: https://armorgames.com/play/13256/epic-combo-redux
Game Synopsis: Hit turtles and try getting and epic combo... again!
Blog: This is a pretty good sequel. There's more options and tools for hitting the turtles, you can even upgrade your hammer, and the art style was much improved over the previous. Aside from that the game works similar to the first game for the most part, and it also has an endless mode in addition to the normal mode.
My problem with the first one was that the max combo of 10,000 was too short. This game raised it to 1,000,000; which makes the opposite issue of the game having too much waiting. Once you have a good system set-up it takes FOREVER to get a combo of a million. I think if there were just one more multiplier upgrade that would fix it for the most part, or maybe give the player an additional task while the combo goes on.

Main Story: 3m 14s
Rating: 3/10
Date Completed: December 23, 2020
Armor Games Link: https://armorgames.com/play/460/the-idiot-test
Game Synopsis: Follow the on-screen instructions to figure out how smart you are.
Blog: This is a quiz type of game, but it's very boring with no personality of any kind. It's very short, and so long as you can read instructions literally as well as have a little memorization, anyone can breeze through the game.
Wow, that's really all there is to say about this game.

Flash Game #15: Elephant Quest
Main + Extras: 55m 10s
Rating: 7/10
Date Completed: December 24, 2020
Armor Games Link: https://armorgames.com/play/10606/elephant-quest
Game Synopsis: Wooly the elephant stole your favorite hat, go on a quest to get your hat back.
Blog: For a flash game it's pretty good. Feels to be the perfect length and has a ton of personality. Lots of quests and fun dialogue from various other elephants.
There is a problem in that I feel as though there are some general game design issues and laziness. When getting damaged, there's no feedback to the player that they're being hit aside from the health bar going down(which isn't obvious unless you're constantly staring at it) and small negative numbers popping up near the elephant. It feels like it's missing some sort of noise that should be there.
The platforms and ground are also all the same square cloud-shaped things. Not only is that boring to look at, it makes every area look the same and uninteresting. I wish there were more differences aside from color.

Flash Game #16: Robot Legions
Main Story: 22m 35s
Rating: 8/10
Date Completed: December 26, 2020
Armor Games Link: https://armorgames.com/play/13319/robot-legions
Game Synopsis: Fight armies of robots all while piloting your mech.
Blog: Robot Legions is one of those arena fighting games, where the player is put into a top-down colosseum kind of fight with lots of enemies coming out from the edges of the screen. They're usually the types of games where the player has to either survive as long as possible in an endless onslaught or defeat every enemy that comes on screen. Robot Legions is the latter and while there are tons of other games with similar concepts in gameplay, Robot Legions does it well and it's fun.
There's nothing really special about the fights themselves, but it doesn't do anything that I would consider wrong when it comes to the gameplay. Just shoot at everything that moves, collect the money that's dropped, and then move onto the next level which will always have some new enemies to deal with.
After every fight, win or lose, you can spend the money that you picked up in the shop for upgrades. They're standard upgrades to things like health, damage, fire rate, money, etc. All the normal upgrades you'd expect in a game such as this.
I do wish that the game was a bit longer and with more bosses. I feel like the game barely scratched the surface of what it could do, especially when it comes to bosses in which there's only the one boss at the end.

Main Story: 16m 53s
Rating: 1/10
Date Completed: December 26, 2020

Game Synopsis: Just a bunch of random nonsense.
Blog: I don't know how to describe this type of game other than outdated 2000s "lol random" offensive humor and falling off a cliff over and over with little to no differences other than scenery.
The game just feels lazy and extremely boring. Unlike King of Buttons 3 and The Idiot Test which were both made by amateur game designers like this one, I can at least tell that they tried to make something. Don't play this.

Rating: 4/10
Date Completed: December 26, 2020

Game Synopsis: Play on God's computer.
Blog: If anyone ever asked me for an example of early flash games or animations, I'd point toward God's Playing Field. It harnesses all of that energy: Short intro flash animation? Check. Inconsistent sound quality with some of the characters speaking? Check. Extremely basic gameplay? Check.
However being an example of early flash doesn't really make the game good. Early flash has definitely aged, and it doesn't help that the only thing that the game has going for it is possibly being a stress reliever due to the sandbox nature of it.

Game Synopsis: Play through the first 4 Jurassic Park movies in Lego form.
Blog: This is the worst Lego game I've played. The Jurassic Park movies don't feel like they should be a Lego game, not a traditional one anyway. If that wasn't enough, I have plenty of issues with the game.
The first thing that struck me as odd was the voice quality in the cutscenes. It sounded as if the developers ripped the dialog from the movie and pasted it into the game. They used such a terrible rip, it's like instead of taking it directly from the movie; they went to a theater playing the Jurassic Park movies and held up a microphone. It's so bad and so inconsistent to the other voices in the game that actually sound decent.
Another thing: nobody in the story was really allowed to die. It's so weird and out of place seeing someone just simply run away instead of being killed considering this is Jurassic Park we're talking about. It doesn't even make sense because Lego games in the past had deaths. Star Wars and Indiana Jones had people directly dying in their Lego games. I'm not saying that the deaths need to be as brutal as they are in the movies, just have the people being eaten or something.
The story and voices are unfortunately not the only issues I have. The flow of gameplay is constantly being interrupted by stupid interactive stuff. Stuff like: press the a button at the right time, mash the a button, hold the a button, spin your control stick around until you get Joycon drift, a dinosaur is attacking so here's a quick time event, or even stupid chase sequences that you have to do once every 2 levels. These wouldn't be such a problem if they weren't happening at every moment.
What I do like is the normal gameplay. I like the different dinosaurs to play as. I like exploring the different hub areas. I wish there were more levels where you play purely from the dinosaurs perspective(there was a little bit of this in a level or two but not much). I think that would have been cool. I just wish this game wasn't bogged down by so much unnecessary stuff.
TL;DR: LEGO Jurassic World is not a good Lego game for me. I'm sure there are those who can enjoy it, but it felt like a chore for me to get through.

I definetly agree with this, I played this a couple days after Lego Star Wars 3 and it really made me realize that voice acting was a terrible idea. I will say that I didn't mind the quick-time events but what I didn't like was the open-world parts in between levels. If you had access to the full open-world then it wouldn't be so bad but the sections in between levels are pretty much just use a character ability and maybe a "puzzle".

Flash Game Frenzy #7:
Flash Game #19: Pumpkin Battle
Main Story: 3m 43s
Rating: 5/10
Date Completed: December 26, 2020
Armor Games Link: https://armorgames.com/play/254/pumpkin-battle
Game Synopsis: Fight an evil Jack-o-Lantern that's destroying your pumpkin friends.
Blog: Whoever made this game has the potential to make great turn-based RPGs and creative stories.
I just wish it had more than 2 minutes worth of stuff to do. There's only one fight in the whole game and it only takes about 4 turns to easily beat the evil pumpkin. I even played it twice and lost on purpose for one of them to see the losing screen. It took longer for me to lose than to win. This is honestly one of the shortest games I've played.
Play it just for the creativeness of the concept of two pumpkins fighting to the death.

Flash Game #20: Boss Slayer
Main Story: 23m 09s
Rating: 10/10
Date Completed: December 27, 2020
Armor Games Link: https://armorgames.com/play/13324/boss-slayer
Game Synopsis: Fight a series of 10 bosses before 12 in-game days(or unlimited days in easy mode)
Blog: Boss Slayer is a bullet hell style of game similar to those such as Ikaruga. There are 10 bosses, each with 3 life bars. After each life bar the boss slightly increases in difficulty(or a different boss appears when on their last bar) and also drops money.
The money can be used to upgrade the ship at a shop which is only accessible after the player dies. The ship has 6 upgrades and they're all the basic upgrades such as health up, speed up, more money, etc.
I really enjoyed this game and I really liked the extra challenge of normal mode which gives you 12 lives instead of unlimited lives like it is on easy.
This game feels like one that would be on arcades. It's really well done and I liked the music it has.
If you enjoy bullet hell or shmup games, I recommend trying this one out.

Main + Extras: 33m 25s
Rating: 8/10
Date Completed: December 27, 2020
Armor Games Link: https://armorgames.com/play/5249/chibi-knight
Game Synopsis: Defeat the 3 beasts and save the land.
Blog: This game is Zelda 2 if Zelda 2 was good.
This was a fun game. I like the artstyle and I really enjoyed the voice overs by the devs 5 year old(probably not 5 anymore) daughter. It's all so adorable.
The game has better combat than Zelda 2, although maybe it could still improve in some areas. I wish there were more enemies like those giant pig guys, as I actually had to look for the patterns of when to jump and strike. All three bosses are also massive pushovers and I didn't have any trouble with them.
One complaint is that the game just feels waaay too short for what it is. I would have loved something longer and it feels like it should be longer. Maybe one day I'll buy Super Chibi Knight on Steam.

Flash Game Frenzy #8:
Flash Game #22: Epic Friends
Main Story: 59m 42s
Rating: 5/10
Date Completed: December 28, 2020
Game Synopsis: Create friends and use them to defend... the bottom screen?
Blog: Tower defense is a popular genre among flash games. Epic Friends in comparison to other tower defense games is nothing special.
The only really special thing is that your towers(or friends as they're called in this game) aren't stationary in this game. So it's cool that they can move around.
However, instead of having different areas and different backgrounds, you're in the same place for 100 waves of enemies and that's all. What's more is that you can only have 12 friends at a time so you can have a good team early on and still use that same team. So everything just feels the same.
Epic Friends really just needs to have less monotony as that's it's weakest attribute aside from just not having anything about it stand out compared to other tower defense games.

Flash Game #23: Coinbox Hero
Main Story: 34m 29s
Rating: 4/10
Date Completed: December 28, 2020
Game Synopsis: Fight a mysterious, stationary coinbox. Use the coins from the coinbox to hire more people and buy better weapons to fight the coinbox.
Blog: Coinbox Hero is similar in concept to an idle game.
If you like idle games like Cookie Clicker and you're looking for something a bit shorter, Coinbox Hero can satisfy that urge.
What I dislike about the game is the tremendous amount of lag that can occur when having multiple coins on screen at once. Like, a lot of lag. Even on lower quality settings. That's really bad.

Flash Game #24: Last Guardian
Main Story: 1h 25m 35s
Rating: 3/10
Date Completed: December 28, 2020
Game Synopsis: A kingdom is under attack by the forces of darkness, but a lone archer is protecting it.
Blog: This game was starting out great. I really liked the gameplay of shooting arrows and having to aim them just right. Killing enemies with headshots is so satisfying.
Then things started breaking. First thing I noticed is that arrows would clearly hit the enemy where they're standing but it's as if the arrow went right through them and the enemies going unscathed. Then I noticed that even with the maximum damage upgrade, it was the same amount of damage as if I hadn't upgraded at all. Then for whatever reason the 4th piercing upgrade just doesn't pierce at all. The fake achievement pop-up is also annoying as hell. The final boss is also incredibly stupid and over powered.
What happened to this game? Why did it just become annoying out of nowhere? Did no one play test this game? It's so frustrating.

Flash Game #25: Nyan Cat Fly!
Main Story: 3m 32s
Rating: 6/10
Date Completed: December 29, 2020
Game Synopsis: Control Nyan Cat! Get the sweets! Avoid the veggies
Blog: Nyan Cat Fly is one of those endless games where the only real goal is to get the highest score that you can get.
It's an ok game and aside from a few secret cheat codes that only gives minor changes to the game, there's not much else about it that's really all that interesting. Play it once and that's all you really need.
Also, the music really gives me a headache. I get that the Nyan Cat theme has to be the music choice, but it gets old after a while.
--------------------
Flash Game #26: Sift Heads Assault 2
Main Story: 16m 25s
Rating: 2/10
Date Completed: December 29, 2020
Game Synopsis: Shoot enemies from behind cover.
Blog: This game is pretty boring. It's similar to those dull shoot-and-cover type of game that you would see in arcades, but it's extremely dull. Just shoot as many enemies as you can until you die, then you're at your home base where you can buy weapons and clothes to then fight again.
I hate the cover system. Even though I'm behind like, a tall car or something I can still be hit. It makes sense for the shorter objects like bushes and trash cans, but I think I should be fine with bigger objects. The same goes for shooting at the enemies but it's hard to tell whether they're actually taking cover behind something or if they're just standing behind the object and shooting through it.
Then there's the enemies that come out of nowhere and grab you, forcing you to get into a quick time event where other enemies are able to shoot at you. It's stupidly annoying and there's really nothing you can do to stop it from happening, you just have to let them grab you.
One thing I want to mention is that your ammo isn't unlimited(unless you turn on a cheat mode), during your shootout you'll have to grab ammo crates that spawn on the ground. This would normally be fine, however a huge flaw is that when you die; your ammo doesn't get refilled nor do you have the option to buy ammo to reload your weapons. You're just screwed at the beginning of the game. That's so annoying!
Then there's also no real sense of progression in the game aside from getting money to buy things and having your notoriety level up to unlock new weapons. I didn't even realize it was an endless game until a few minutes in because you're always playing the same map.
Don't play this.

Flash Game #27: 40x Escape
Main Story: 16m 56s
Rating: 8/10
Date Completed: December 29, 2020
Game Synopsis: Open a door 40 times by solving puzzles.
Blog: I like this game. I like the variety of puzzles and it can definitely be pretty challenging and some you have to think outside the box.
One thing I really have to criticize is that some of the levels have it to where the player needs to "not move the mouse for a minute", "continuously move the mouse for a minute", and some others like that. Those aren't fun nor challenging. Just annoying and unfortunately with there only being 40 levels there's just a good amount of levels like that in the game. Other than those gripes, play it if you like puzzle games.

Flash Game #28: Loot the Game
100% Completion: 24m 52s
Rating: 6/10
Date Completed: December 29, 2020
Game Synopsis: Destroy a train with 100 cars using the weapons and armor dropped by the train.
Blog: Loot the game is a pretty good game. Destroy a train one train car at a time; pick up weapons and armor with different stats, abilities, and even rarities; defend yourself from the turrets, and every few minutes there'll be a little tunnel that you can heal at.
The game is fun and doesn't really take itself too seriously, and with the train moving so fast you have to grab the armor and weapons quickly and see if this is stuff you really need. It keeps you on your toes.
There are a few problems with it. I think the storage is practically useless. It doesn't really do anything aside from saving the weapons and armor dropped, but they're usually always outleveled by something else that you'll pick up. So I'd rather just change and pick up the weapons right then and there.
There's no punishment for dying, or at least nothing I noticed. Maybe you lose money, but the only real thing you need money for is healing... Which you won't need to do if you can just die and have your health full anyway.
One big issue I had was the loudness of the music and the explosions gave me such a headache. I had to turn off the music halfway through because it was just too much.
Other than those things, the game can be pretty fun.

Flash Game #29: Give Up
Main Story: 18m 54s
Rating: 9/10
Date Completed: December 29, 2020
Game Synopsis: Go through a course of deadly obstacles and hazards. Or just press the big blue button that says "GIVE UP". Your choice.
Blog: I love the concept of this kind of game. A tricky, hard as nails platformer with a giant clickable button that's essentially a rage quit button. This game is great.
It works as a platformer too. Controls are great and the level design is pretty simple. The levels are also mostly designed to ease you into the game. They usually take the same level and add a few spikes, lasers, guns, saw blades, and whatever other devious thing comes to the developers' minds. Of course it won't always be the same level as there are certain parts where they change the layout entirely. So you're not going to be too comfortable.
One thing I will criticize is that the game peaks in difficulty around the early 30s and becomes significantly easier. I feel like it should be flipped as I breezed through the 40s.
Play this game if you want to be mad... in a good way!

Flash Game #30: Sift Heads World Act 1
Main + Extras: 19m 20s
Rating: 5/10
Date Completed: December 30, 2020
Game Synopsis: Join a trio of assassins in taking down the mafia.
Blog: If anyone remembers, I already reviewed Sift Heads Assault 2 and really disliked it. This is definitely a much better game, but I still wouldn't say it's good.
It has a story this time which I guess is better but I found it kind of odd at the beginning. Like, there's no explanation as to why they want to take down the mafia at the very beginning when they're at the docks. It makes sense as to why they want to take them down afterwards, but before that nothing has really been explained.
What's worse is that this is an episodic type of game. Where you don't even get an actual ending until you finish the later games. So that sucks because I don't feel like playing them.
The gameplay is much better than Assault 2 with it having a point-and-click style, and being able to quickly pull out your gun by pressing the spacebar. It's simple and effective.
Not everything about the gameplay is improved however as they decided to add in quick time events where you need to have the quickest reflexes at pressing the WASD keys. Those aren't fun but fortunately they don't happen too often.
One thing that really sucked is that the game crashed. I tried leaving an area and all of a suddenly I couldn't do anything else. I had to refresh the page and play the game from the very beginning. So that's annoying and definitely not good.

Game #18: Super Mario Bros. 2
Platform: Switch
Main Story: 2h 07m 00s
Rating: 5/10
Date Completed: December 29, 2020
Extra Details: NSO version
Game Synopsis: Play as Mario, Luigi, Toad, or the princess and travel throughout the land.
Blog: I've always heard this game get lots of flack. Honestly I didn't think it was that bad. It's probably the worst 2D Mario game but I wouldn't consider this game downright awful.
As a Mario game, it just feels too weird and out-of-place with the design and gameplay. Which sort of makes sense because it wasn't suppose to be a Mario game originally. Maybe it should have stayed that way and have been its own thing.
Then there's stuff that just feels unfair or pointless. There's dead end spots that don't offer anything. There's sections where you need to trust fall and dodge spikes.
I also dislike that enemies don't die if you throw them on the ground. I guess I feel like dying should just be a given when basic enemies are thrown?
The rest of the game is fine. There's nothing really amazing about it but there's not really anything terrible. It's just mostly an average game.
TL;DR: Super Mario Bros. 2 gets a lot of flak but probably undeserving of a lot of it. Not a fan of the bs parts and how average it feels.

Flash Game Frenzy #11:
Flash Game #31: Elf Story
100% Completion: 22m 52s
Rating: 4/10
Date Completed: December 30, 2020
Game Synopsis: Go to a fantasy video game world and save the princess.
Blog: Elf Story is a point-and-click game. The graphics are decent, and the music is fine.
What I don't like so much are the quick reflexes required to play the game. On almost every screen the player must suddenly dodge arrows, swordsman falling from the sky, and a giant troll thing with the most annoying timing with its attack patterns.
These situations often make a cheap annoying death the first time you have to deal with it(except for the final boss that once again, has awful timing). The thing is, these situations aren't usually hard to deal with after the first time. Once it happens, you know it's coming and can deal with it right away. So what's the point of these roadblocks aside from just being annoying? I just wish that there was a puzzle or something to do instead of just clicking something at the right time.
What's worse is that this is all that the game is. It's so incredibly short and leaves off a cliffhanger that's never been given a second part. It's a shame because it's not as if the story was terrible in of itself, just incredibly generic.

Flash Game #32: Doodle God
Main Story: 51m 14s
Rating: 6/10
Date Completed: December 30, 2020
Game Synopsis: Combine elements to create new elements.
Blog: Doodle God is a puzzle game where you start out with 4 elements and have to combine them in order to make over 100 different elements.
It's a very relaxing game at the start and it's satisfying to discover new elements to then combine with previous elements.
However, it reaches a point where you have like 60 elements and there's a long period of not being able to combine elements, which is no fun for me. There is a hint button that helps a little bit with the problem, but what I would really like to see is some sort of way to tell if an element can't be combined anymore. It helps enough to where it will keep the player thinking but it also doesn't spoil the solution. This to me would solve Doodle God's biggest problem.
I would still recommend playing the game and its sequels though.

Flash Game #33: Toast of War
Main Story: 13m 23s
Rating: 4/10
Date Completed: December 30, 2020
Game Synopsis: Grandpa toast tells a story to his grandson about when he was a lone warrior fighting butter monsters.
Blog: This game tries to make itself feel like a platformer but ends up being more of some sort of bland beat 'em up instead.
The two only bosses in the game were the most bs parts. They weren't hard by any means, there were just mechanics with them and their room setups that made them take just about forever to fight.
The game isn't absolutely awful but it feels more like the foundation of a game rather than a game itself.

Flash Game Frenzy #12 - Final:
Flash Game #34: Upgrade Complete 3mium
Main Story: 55m 28s
Rating: 8/10
Date Completed: December 30, 2020
Game Synopsis: A game about having to upgrade every single aspect, while also simultaneously playing a game about defending a base from waves of enemies.
Blog: This game is a lot of fun and has such a hilarious idea. I love how the game starts out at sub-par graphics, sound effects, music, and others; but then with the money you earn in the game you can upgrade all of those mentioned aspects to be much better.
One thing though, the portions of the game where you're a ship defending a base. Those are incredibly easy. I wish the difficulty was turned up a notch.

Flash Game #35: Corporate Climber
Main Story: 20m 07s
Rating: 9/10
Date Completed: December 31, 2020
Game Synopsis: Start from the very bottom of the company and become the head CEO.
Blog: This is a platformer type of game where you need to perform some tasks in order to proceed and be promoted. You also get a highscore along the way so there's an incentive to play with friends to see who gets a higher score. I got a score of 696906. Can anyone beat that?
The game is at a good difficulty too! It was hard but not too hard to be frustrating.
I'm not sure what it was about the music but it was grating.

Flash Game #36: Robot Wants Fishy
Main + Extras: 58m 33s
Rating: 9/10
Date Completed: December 31, 2020
Game Synopsis: You're a robot and you want the fish!
Blog: Robot Wants Fishy is a 2D Metroidvania type of game where you have to figure out where to go and defeat enemies. It's really fun, has a lot of things to upgrade, and there's also a large amount of bosses for a game as small as it is.
I mentioned upgrades, but honestly some of the upgrades don't have much use outside of some specific areas. The reflector is a good example of missed potential as it only reflects specific bullets that only 2 or 3 enemy types use and it only reflects upwards. I just wish it had more use.

Game #19: Scribblenauts
Platform: Nintendo DS
Main Story: 9h 41m 25s
100% Complete: 9h 44m 48s
Rating: 6/10
Date Completed: January 1, 2021
Game Synopsis: Solve puzzles by creating objects with the power of a magical notebook.
Blog: I loved this game as a kid. I liked the idea of being able to make almost anything and solve puzzles that way; and I still do for the most part.
However some of the puzzles can be too vague and confusing. For example there's one level that's clearly based on Back to the Future and the hint is what I assume to be a quote from it. The thing is that even with the hint I couldn't figure out what to do because I hadn't seen the movie and therefore wouldn't know what to do. There's other levels like a murder mystery that gave no hints about who the murderer could be without completely guessing.
However, the vague puzzles are nothing compared to the awful controls. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to use the touch screen for both dragging and dropping objects while also moving Maxwell, but they did a terrible job. I've died so many times because often times I try to grab something I just spawned, but then I accidentally touch the empty space and fall into lava, or spikes, or something else. Then there's times where I try moving a few inches in a plane or other vehicle, but then I accidentally grab the plane, ejecting my character, and then die.
I don't understand why I can't just use the d-pad to move Maxwell. The d-pad in the game moves the camera, which is also the same function as the face buttons. There's no need for two sets of ways to move the camera. Make the d-pad the way to move Maxwell, the face buttons can be for moving the camera, and the touch screen can be for everything else. The controls being fixed would bring this game up to like an 8, the controls ruin an otherwise good game.
TL;DR: Scribblenauts would be a great puzzle game if not for the absolutely awful controls. If you can somehow ignore that, then I'd recommend it.

Game #20: Super Mario Maker for 3DS
Platform: Nintendo 3DS
Main + Extras: 7h 56m 26s
Rating: 5/10
Date Completed: January 2, 2021
Game Synopsis: Make Mario levels but this time on the 3DS.
Blog: Mario Maker on the Wii U is one of my favorite Wii U games. So you'd think that I would absolutely love the 3DS version. Unfortunately that's not the case for me.
The 3DS adds things to the original game that I think is great. There's in-depth tutorial levels on game design. There's also special levels to play where you can unlock the different.
Those are great! Unfortunately there are design choices that really hurt the game.
Big Issue 1: You can't upload your levels. There's no way to share the levels that you make with other people without having to give them your own 3DS. I feel like that completely defeats the purpose of making your own levels if you can't share them externally from your own 3DS.
Big Issue 2: With online levels you can only play the newest levels uploaded from the Wii U version. Not the top levels, not trending levels, you can't even search for levels by their IDs. Only the newest levels. That's so dumb. That takes out a majority of the fun with Mario Maker. Let me have the freedom of picking the levels I want to play!
Also, this isn't a major deal I suppose; but the New Super Mario Bros. U variation looks bad on the 3DS. Very blurry and pixel-y. That's the only one that looks bad.
Other than those issues, and the added tutorial content; everything else in the game is the exact same as the Wii U version.
TL;DR: Super Mario Maker for 3DS adds some great content, but it unfortunately takes away essential content that takes away the fun of the game.

Game #21: Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD
Platform: Switch
Main + Extras: 13h 32m 00s
Rating: 9/10
Date Completed: January 7, 2021
Game Synopsis: Hunt down bounties for money, using the critters you'll find along the way as ammo for your crossbow.
Blog: This game was heavily suggested to me by a friend ever since the Switch version was announced at a Nintendo Direct. Well thanks to him, I played a great game.
I loved the atmosphere of the game being like a gritty-looking western with mutated animals as the characters. It also doesn't take itself seriously and it can be pretty funny at times with what some of the characters say.
I like the story of the main character. He needs money for an important surgery, and so therefore becomes a bounty hunter to be able to afford it.
What I also love is his weapon being some kind of double-loaded crossbow; but instead of the ammo being arrows or bolts, it's small critters instead. The critters have a variety of effects, some more useful than others(the skunk one prior to being upgraded is entirely useless). You can find these critters roaming around in the wild or in boxes. Also, with the crossbow being double-loaded you can have two ammo types at a time and fire one type after the other by pressing ZL and ZR. It's really fun!
Also when it comes to taking down enemies, you don't have to kill them(although there will be situations where you can only kill then). It's possible to hit an enemy enough times to temporarily knock them out, and while they're knocked out you're able to "bag them" and then sell them at the bounty store for more money than what you'd get for them dead. You can even do this with the bosses, with the reward for turning them in alive being more than twice the amount than turning them in dead. However, it's often much harder to take them down alive.
The game is great. However there are a few things that kind of drag this game down. Sometimes in the game there can be spots where it's assumed to be stealth sections, unfortunately I often found it just about impossible to stealth around in some of these sections with how the layout is.
Then there's the "bounty bag" that I mentioned before where you can put alive or dead bounties in a bag to then be turned in for cash later on. Unfortunately I felt as if sometimes the action can be awkward, like I feel like I should be moving backwards as I'm sucking them up(like Luigi's Mansion) but if I move just a bit, the sucking suddenly stops and I either have to do it again or if the enemy is still alive, they can often wake up and I'll have to deal with them again. Neither result is very fun.
TL;DR: Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath is a very fun game. If you're looking for some variety in your first-person shooters, I really recommend this one.

Platform: Switch

Rating: 9/10
Date Completed: January 8, 2021
Extra Details: NSO Version
Game Synopsis: Kirby is on a mission to return good dreams to everyone in Dream Land.
Blog: This is a very impressive game on the NES in terms of looks and play. I was pleasantly surprised as it aged pretty well. It's something that I feel anyone these days could play and generally enjoy. It's like any other Kirby game.
I do wish it were a bit more difficult near the end. I get Kirby games are generally very easy, but I wish there was a higher difficulty option.

Game #23: Vigor
Platform: Switch
Multiplayer - VS: 2h 13m 32s
Rating: 5/10
Date Completed: January 10, 2021
Game Synopsis: A multiplayer third-person shooter battle royale game about survival.
Blog: I don't care much for battle royale games, and frankly I feel no difference with this one.
It has things that set it apart from others like Fortnite, for instance the main goal of this game is to gather lots of materials so your home base can expand. The main materials to get coming from limited airdrops. You can also kill other players and take their supplies, or you can die and lose almost all of your stuff including your weapons.
You also don't have to stick around for the airdrop, you can leave the area whenever you want by going to any of the marked exits. Sometimes it's for the best.
Now the survival and material stuff to expand your base is neat and all, but there's no real end goal. From what I understand, the upgrades to your base either gives you better weapons, more materials, and cosmetic changes to the base. It just seems like an endless cycle of needing materials for no real purpose.
That's not to mention the microtransactions in the game. Which I feel like is the entire reason for the material collecting in the first place, as you can just buy them instead of going out and earning them in-game.
The game is definitely well-made and I could see people having a blast with it. For me, the game just feels so uninspired. Even with the goal being different from other battle royale games, it still ends up feeling similar to games such as Fortnite or Player's Unknown Battle Grounds.
TL;DR: Vigor has an interesting gameplay aspect on paper for a battle royale game based on the overall material gathering, but ends up feeling the same as other games such as Fortnite.

Game #24: Wii Sports
Platform: Wii
Main + Extra: 3h 23m 41s
Rating: 6/10
Date Completed: January 13, 2021
Game Synopsis: Play a variety of sports using Wii motion controls.
Blog: Wii Sports is probably one of the greatest pack-in titles for a console. It shows off what the console is capable of while also having some fun mini games that even people who aren't gamers can enjoy.
I'd like to review each of the sports individually in their own sections, as I feel each has their own merits and qualities to talk about. Keep in mind that I'm talking about Wii Sports in a singleplayer point-of-view.
Tennis: God this one's so boring and long to play.
I don't like how limited I am with my movement with this game. I don't get to choose where I walk to, or at what angles I want to hit the ball at. All I get to do is hit the ball and hope I didn't hit it too hard to get it over the line.
Which is another issue with the game, whenever I'm in the back of the court it seems so easy to hit the tennis ball back and have it end up outside the court. However, when I'm near the front and close to the net, no matter how hard I hit the ball it never goes past the line. This just feels so lopsided and so out of my control
The AI is another issue. Both on the opponent's side and your teammate. The opponents are too good at playing. I realize how weird this sounds, but keep in mind with what I complained about with the controls being too restricting. I can only hit the ball in the direction that the game wants me to hit it in, and with the CPUs always being in the direction that I hit the ball, they're almost always hitting the ball. This usually causes long, drawn out matches that feel as if I'm rapidly aging by the second. The CPUs wouldn't be so much of an issue if I were just allowed to angle the damn racket. How hard is it to let me do that?
Then there's the CPU teammate. They are a monster on the court, able to hit the ball almost every single time successfully... but only when they're in charge of the back of the court. I find that when they're in the front of the court, they almost never hit the ball... EVER. So whenever the game randomly assigns you in the back, and your partner in the front; it's basically a guarantee loss unless you're lucky enough to have the other team hit the ball outside the court.
Sure I could assign two player controlled Miis on the same side, but then I have to keep track of two characters at the same time and becomes a different problem in of itself.
Another thing that bothers me is the leveling thing with Tennis. I started with a Mii that my copy of Wii Sports has never seen, so I start at pro level 0... makes sense! What doesn't make sense is why am I fighting teams over pro level 1000? What makes it even worse is that often when I'm with a CPU teammate, my teammate is often a much lower level than am I. So while I'm at level 300, my teammate is level 30... and we're fighting a duo where both players are above 1000. I'm not sure if that's connected to the difficulty of the CPUs in any way(I know it is with one of the sports games) but it's just so odd.
I will commend Tennis for allowing me to have a team of two of me, fighting another team of two of me. That's the only enjoyment I had out of it.
Tennis is really boring.
Baseball: Too bad Baseball isn't any better.
Baseball suffers from many similar problems that Tennis has. A lot of the game boils down to the AI RNG.
Now, obviously hitting the ball with the bat isn't up to RNG. Neither is pitching the ball. Everything else pretty much is down to how the CPUs feel in that given moment. I have no issue with that when it comes to the other team. They're made entirely of AI, it makes sense that they screw up every once in awhile on the field.
When that happens to my team though, when they manage to easily miss catching the ball that flew right at them, it's quite frustrating as there's nothing I can control. I can't tell the AI to stand there, I can't make any sort of motion to get them to run faster. I just have to hope that they're able to get the damn ball.
Also, I feel like the game designers haven't really watched a baseball game before. Usually when the ball gets hit and flies away, that's when the batter starts running and then the outfielders are suppose to get the ball as fast as they can and either try to get the batter out, or at least put them in a position where they can't rum anymore.
In this game the batter doesn't get to run until the players on the field pickup the ball and the words "single", "double", or "triple" pop up. That's just weird to me. I wish the players would just run while the ball is in play, as it should be.
Also, once again the pro level issue is here again, where I start off at level 0 and the opposing team is pro level 1000. Cool...
Baseball isn't as bad as tennis but still boring.
Bowling: Finally a good sports game!
Wii Sports Bowling is great. Honestly it's the first thing I think of when Wii Sports comes to mind.
The controls are simple to understand: line up your shots, hold the B, and then swing and release the button. Nice and simple.
Back when the Wii was still big, I remember that I would see people playing Wii games at the parties that my mom brought me to. Every single time, Wii Sports Bowling was the game being played at those parties.
It's fun, anyone can play it, and it's a game where you could even improve your skills with it overtime. This is the best bowling game. Bar none.
Golf: Golf isn't as great in comparison to Bowling but it's still pretty good.
Swinging the club feels so satisfying, and what's cool is that you can take practice shots before actually hitting the ball, allowing you to see how hard you may need to hit.
Honestly, there's just not much to say about Golf, as it does what it sets out to do: being a golf game. With all of the complex mechanics and games breaking new ground with trying something new, sometimes you just need something simple.
Boxing: Oh no another sports game with CPUs... but it's good?
Yeah. Wii Sports Boxing is actually pretty good. Beating up Miis just feels so satisfying. Punching them multiple times in succession, watching their lifebar go down, and then bringing the punch that knocks them out cold. All of the frustration of having to deal with these numbskulls through Tennis and Baseball has been harnessed for this brief moment of me beating them with my fists.
It's also the only Wii Sports game that uses the nunchuck, which makes sense because you can't exactly box with one hand.
This sport game like every other has a pro leveling system(I didn't mention it for Bowling or Golf because it literally had no use), but unlike every other game: the CPUs are around your level instead of being thousands of levels above you. It also seems like the fights also get more difficult. In the beginning I was taking down Miis without a scratch, but later down the line they were starting to defend themselves better. So it does look like it gets slightly more difficult!
It's not the greatest of the Wii Sports games, but it does what it should!
Training & Wii Fitness: Training is a bunch of minigames centered around the 5 sports games, 3 minigames for each sport. So 15 in all. They're all pretty good! Even the ones for Tennis and Baseball! They're fun and I like trying to go for highscores.
Wii Fitness is useless. I think it's suppose to measure how fit you are by making you participate in 3 of the minigames every day... but everyday it's a different set of minigames... so it's not going to be accurate at telling you how fit you are (not that a Wii game would be accurate). I don't see a point in doing this.
TL;DR: I like 3/5 of the sport games available. If you have a Wii and somehow don't have Wii Sports, I'd say get it. It's relatively cheap and you're likely to find a Wii with the game.

Game #25: StarTropics
Platform: Switch
Main + Extra: 4h 36m 16s
Rating: 7/10
Date Completed: January 13, 2021
Extra Details: NSO Version
Game Synopsis: Mike's uncle disappeared. Travel across the sea, looking for clues on his whereabouts.
Blog: This game is pretty good overall. The story is pretty good, and that makes sense for a game like this with RPG elements.
This game has two major sections. I call them the overworld sections and the dungeon sections.
The overworld sections are the more RPG-ish parts of the game. You'll need to walk around the islands and even sea; talking to people as well as solving puzzles. You'll need to explore every inch to find hidden paths and secrets required to progress.
The dungeon sections are the more action parts. They kind of work like the first NES Zelda game where you walk around, defeat enemies, and look around for secret doorways. There's differences in gameplay from Zelda, such as being able to jump. You can often find yourself jumping across gaps, jumping on top of blocks, and even jumping to avoid being hit by attacks. It's a simple addition to the gameplay that has many situations for it to be used in. I like useful things!
One thing I mentioned were the secrets. I like how the secrets and hidden paths are handled in this game, particularly in the overworld sections. I even like it more than the stupid bomb able walls in the original Zelda because you don't need to guess-and-check every nook and cranny like Zelda. You just need to have a keen eye and notice subtle differences in the environment.
The dungeon sections has these secret pathways with similar subtleties with the looks. It's just as good! Unfortunately, in the last few dungeons they take away the visual differences, leaving the player to have to guess and check every wall of every room in these dungeons. It's quite maddening.
Continuing on things I dislike, puzzles... I actually generally enjoy the puzzles in the game. There are some stinkers like memorizing singing notes, and there are some puzzles that I generally enjoyed. However, there's one puzzle I genuinely dislike particularly on the NSO version of the game. Every NES cartridge for StarTropics came with a letter, a letter that you would have to dunk in water in order to access a secret code only shown when it is wet, and it's a code required to beat the game. For the Wii Virtual Console version, you have to go into the online manual for StarTropics where you can click on an icon to then dunk a letter into water, showing the code.
What did they do for the NSO version of the game? Nothing. They didn't add anything. So if you've never played StarTropics before(like me) and you get to the part requiring the 3 digit code, you're going to have to look it up or brute force it by trying every combination. There's no other way unless you already know the code. Like, really Nintendo? This is essentially an incomplete version of the game. It was so frustrating when I came across this and had no idea what to do. Why they didn't do something similar to what they did with the Virtual Console version is beyond me.
One last thing to complain about: something annoying this game likes to do is that if you gain any potions or extra lives in a dungeon and then finish the dungeon, those potions and lives you worked for are suddenly reset. So no more potions, as well as being back to 3 lives. So they're almost useless to hoard, which sucks as they're always in hard to find areas.
Something even more annoying, whenever you complete a chapter, your hearts are set to 3. It doesn't matter if you have the maximum hearts possible, as your hearts will always be set to 3. This is especially frustrating as at the beginning of the last chapter you're fighting a boss with no opportunity to heal before it and the boss is able to kill you in 1 or 2 hits. That's absolutely awful to go through. I wanted to pull my hair out at this fight all because the game forced to be me at a huge disadvantage.
I do want to say that I love the look and sound of StarTropics. I think it's really well done for an NES game. I just wish there weren't these specific parts that are just so extremely aggravating, they absolutely ruin the experience.
TL;DR: StarTropics is a beautiful looking NES game that can be quite fun and challenging at times, but there are very specific puzzles and situations that bring the game down.

Game #26: Kid Icarus
Platform: Switch
Main + Extra: 2h 53m 41s
Rating: 5/10
Date Completed: January 15, 2021
Extra Details: NSO Version
Game Synopsis: Save the mythological world as an angel.
Blog: I feel like I just don't care for Kid Icarus on NES.
The overall levels are pretty fun, and shooting is fine for the most part. I just don't enjoy much else about the game.
I don't know what it is with the platforming, but it feels like Pit's feet are covered in butter with how much he slips around. Seriously, what is this? Why does he slip around? It's annoying and uncool.
Something that is kind of cool is there are upgrades you can find that can give special abilities like letting the arrows fly further, adding in fireballs with the arrows, and even a spinning forcefield thing.
Something that isn't cool is that when going into the dungeons at the end of each world those abilities aren't allowed to be used. Why? Those dungeons are a good chunk of the game you'll spend your time in and with all the enemies spawning on top of you(another annoying thing about this game) they're a much needed help.
I absolutely hate the dungeons. They're a gigantic maze and it's no fun to get lost in them. You could find a map but even if you are able to find it, it hardly helps. I had to rely on online maps because it's just so confusing.
After defeating the third boss, the game suddenly takes you to a long level where the game suddenly decides that instead of being a platformer, it wants to be a shmup. Not even a good shmup, an extremely slow shmup where you can hardly react to anything coming at you. Why does it need to be like this? Why couldn't they just keep it the same as always.
There are 13 levels. 4 of them I absolutely despised with them either being dungeons or the long shmup section. The 9 others are just okay platforming levels.
TL;DR: Kid Icarus is an NES game that like a lot of NES games; hasn't aged very well.

Game #27: Super Scribblenauts
Platform: DS
Main Story: 4h 36m 43s
Main + Extra: 6h 30m 29s
Rating: 9/10
Date Completed: January 16, 2021
Game Synopsis: Solve puzzles by creating objects with the power of a magical notebook... this time with adjectives!
Blog: After my disappointment with the original Scribblenauts, I felt a sense of dread when I realized I was going to have to play the sequel almost immediately after. The controls really brought that game down, and then some of the puzzles were just not that fun or the hints too vague.
As I opened the game and started the tutorial, a beautiful prompt came up asking if I wanted to control Maxwell with the stylus or the d-pad. I was thrilled and if you've seen my Scribblenauts blog post, you know how much I complained about controlling Maxwell with the stylus. So you know that I picked the d-pad controls. This brought my hopes up for the game immediately high.
A major thing that this game added was the ability to put adjectives to the things you can make with your notebook. So instead of just writing a normal "lion", I can write in "winged blue lion" and I get exactly that.
With the feature of adjectives being added, there are now puzzles centered around making things with adjectives. It gets very creative and I had a lot more fun with the puzzles in this game.
Another thing that was improved were the qualities of puzzles and the information given to the player. I could actually understand the objectives this time and what I need to do. Not only that, if for some reason I were stuck there are more hints that you can buy with in-game money or by just waiting a while. Another homerun for this game.
Now for my complaints! This game was much shorter than the first game. There were definitely fewer puzzles in this game than there were in the first, and I felt that was extremely disappointing. I feel like I wasn't given enough time with the game and its puzzles, and that I barely scratched the surface.
The game does reward you if you play the same level 3 times but using different words each time, and I'm sure that technically makes the game longer; but I just feel like that doesn't really add any meaningful content. The length is really the only thing that brings it down for me.
TL;DR: Super Scribblenauts not only adds in the ability to use adjectives, but it significantly improves the controls and the quality of the puzzles as well. Unfortunately this game is much shorter than its predecessor.
