- 189%6 PlatformsDidn't grow up with PlayStation, so I didn't get to try this one out until 2018, although as a kid I always wanted to try Final Fantasy. Absolutely everything about this game resonated with me instantly. Favorite RPG combat system of all time.
- 282%4 PlatformsGrew up playing this at my friend's house, so I've got lots of fond childhood memories attached to this game and its sequel, Halo 2. Personally, I always preferred the gameplay and maps of the original.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Main Story29 HoursMain + Extra35 HoursCompletionist59½ Hours- 388%1 PlatformsNintendo GameCubePlayed this for the first time in 2004 after renting it from Blockbuster. Loved the ocean atmosphere and the bright, cartoon-y visuals. In my eyes, a perfect game from start to finish. Only a few games move me like this one.
- 491%3 PlatformsI've always gravitated towards media that can be described as "dreamlike." Silent HIll 2 is a major example. The feelings this game gives you are so unique. Purely somber, but a really interesting experience. Only game I ever beat twice in one day.
- 582%4 PlatformsFirst played this one back in 2012, after only seeing the characters and gameplay through YouTube videos in the years prior. Quickly became a favorite, and held its spot there for years. I will play this game until I'm physically unable.
- 682%16 PlatformsHuge fan of '90s shooters, and this one is my favorite of them all. I find DOOM to have much better level design than its sequel, DOOM II. I do miss the super shotgun, though. My favorite protagonist of all time!
- 780%3 PlatformsEveryone's seen the debates. Which is better: Mario Kart 64, Crash Team Racing, or Diddy Kong Racing? The true answer is F-Zero X. Fast-paced, zero gravity, space racing with one of the greatest OSTs ever made. Holds a special place in my heart.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Main Story30½ HoursMain + Extra45½ HoursCompletionist74 Hours- 887%8 PlatformsMy dad bought this game for me in 2007 after my parents divorced solely because my mom would always say she'd never let me play Grand Theft Auto. LOL. I played it all weekend for years.
- 983%4 PlatformsToo many memories of playing hours of multiplayer with friends and family. Lockout will always be a favorite map. One of the best final missions ever.
- 1084%5 PlatformsRemember what I said about being a fan of '90s shooters? This is my second favorite, and a masterclass in what I look for in shooters to this day. Smooth and fast-paced with an unmatched atmosphere.
- 1191%5 PlatformsA perfect game. I would never accept slander towards this game. The music, gameplay, plot, characters, dialogue, areas, design, everything in this game is Grade-A. One of my favorite casts of characters in a game.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Main Story21 HoursMain + Extra31 HoursCompletionist32½ Hours- 1290%1 PlatformsNintendo 64Another great example of a dreamlike game. Fantastically weird, colorful, and at times freaky. To sum my feelings on this game up: cool little world, some less than favorable dungeons, but some of the greatest side quests that exist.
- 1380%1 PlatformsNintendo 64This was the first game that me and my brother sunk a major amount of time into, just playing against each other. Even to this day, we still make time to sit and play some. Brings back some of the best memories.
- 1475%4 PlatformsAs a lifelong Simpsons fan, this game was a dream. I've beaten it more than any other game. I once sat down to play a few missions and ended up beating the game. It took about 2 and a half hours.
- 1588%3 PlatformsThis has to be one of the most atmospheric games of all time. Legendary OST, smooth gameplay, unbelievably explorative. Playing this game feels like meditation.
- 1688%1 PlatformsNintendo GameCubeI have a very long history with this game. It was my favorite game to play with friends for years and years. I spent hours learning the technical aspects of the game to play in local tournaments, where I made lots of friends I still have to this day.
- 1775%4 PlatformsThis was the first Sonic game I ever owned. The hub worlds, the Chao garden, the cast of playable characters, and of course the legendary soundtrack all made an everlasting impression on me.
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl
Main Story41 HoursMain + Extra91½ HoursCompletionist265 Hours- 1879%1 PlatformsNintendo DSI think it's hard for most Pokemon players to pick their true favorite. In my eyes, Diamond always had memorable towns, a fun story, and the best legendaries in the series. I have nostalgic feelings for this game; it got me through a tough time in life.
- 1987%3 PlatformsOne of my all-time favorite horror games. Fantastic sci-fi horror story on a space ship. I describe this game to people who never played as "Fallout 3 in space" but it's so much more. Once you learn the psi powers, it becomes a whole different game.
- 2088%7 PlatformsThis is a rare perfect game. Highway 17 is one of my favorite chapters in any game, and sometimes I'll boot Half-Life 2 just to give that chapter another playthrough. I often like to play through this at the end of summer leading into fall.
Shadow of the Colossus (2005)
Main Story9½ HoursMain + Extra11½ HoursCompletionist21½ Hours- 2190%2 PlatformsPlayStation 2, PlayStation 3I've owned this game for years, but never gave it more than a couple tries before really diving in recently. I love the simplicity, the look and feel, the combat, the bosses. This game might be near perfect.
- 2280%6 PlatformsI was big into skateboarding as a kid, and this game was one of my most played games. Eric Sparrow is the devil. The default custom skater should be in Smash. Also, crazy soundtrack.
- 2383%4 PlatformsAnnoyed everyone in my house with the "Tricky" sound effects from this game because I played so much. Completing Elise's trick book felt immensily satisfying.
- 2484%5 PlatformsMy all-time favorite fighting game. I've always stuck it out with King as my main. I consistently come back to this one. Coolest stages, great roster, and my favorite Tekken OST.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Main Story17½ HoursMain + Extra25 HoursCompletionist40 Hours- 2584%9 PlatformsGTA games have always been some of my favorites. Didn't get to spend a lot of time with this one until a couple years ago, but I quickly began to appreciate it. I love this game's characters.
- 2687%7 PlatformsI really loved my time with this game, and it's so nostalgic. I love the story and trying to interpret its symbolism. The world is full of super cool locations, I only wish it opened up a little earlier! One of the best Final Fantasy stories.
- 2779%11 PlatformsI love the Quake series. Quake II is my favorite because of the mission structure, and the cooler settings. Also gotta love the more colorful visuals and the forever-smooth gameplay.
- 2882%1 PlatformsGame Boy AdvanceMetroid Fusion took me by huge surprise when I first saw its horror-oriented aspects. I'm a big fan of horror media, namely movies and games. SA-X is such a cool villain concept, and the chase sequences are such a fucking adrenaline rush.
- 2987%3 PlatformsIt took me a long time to truly appreciate this game. I used to prefer the first Fallout, but that recently changed. New Vegas has such a unique atmosphere, and a fantastic roster of strange characters to find.
WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007
Main Story10½ HoursMain + Extra21½ HoursCompletionist55 Hours- 3071%4 PlatformsNo bullshit, I've probably played over two or three thousand hours of this game, if not more. This and GTA:SA were all I had on the weekends from 2007 to 2010. Even when new Smackdown vs Raw games would drop, this one would be my go-to.
- 3184%5 PlatformsThis is probably super biased, and I'm also prone to hyperbole, but I think this is one of the best video game reboots out there. Faithful, yet modern, in a really well-executed way. I love Eternal, too, but I find the 2016 game more fun to revisit.
- 3283%1 PlatformsPlayStationI love this one almost as much as I love its sequel, for all the same reasons. I love the grittier feel of this one. The PlayStation's graphical limitations aged perfectly for the horror genre, and it works perfectly for this game.
Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
Main Story5½ HoursMain + Extra12½ HoursCompletionist23½ Hours- 3382%1 PlatformsNintendo GameCubeMy favorite Mario Kart game! I still hold out hope that they'll revisit the "Double Dash" gimmick in a future Mario Kart game. I am always so indecisive about who I pick, so I loved having two options. Koopa Troopa & Baby Luigi always.
- 3485%3 PlatformsEven as a horror fan, Dead Space didn't appeal to me when the games originally released. I grew less picky over the years and really wanted to give the remake a try, and it blew me away. I'm so excited for the potential sequel remake.
- 3576%1 PlatformsPCYet another favorite multiplayer shooter of mine. CS:GO never felt nearly as good as Source. I still load this one up semi-frequently, my go-to being a nice 24/7 cs_office deathmatch server.
- 3689%11 PlatformsEasily my favorite Resident Evil game, and I really enjoy the whole series. Such addictive gameplay. Unfortunately, I feel like the castle section is a stain on the game. Luckily, the island section (mostly) redeems it. Very addictive gameplay.
- 3782%6 PlatformsAnother perfect game in my opinion. If I were to ever mod a game to make my own game, this would be the one I'd use. Alluring dialogue, super fun gameplay, immaculate atmosphere.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Main Story7 HoursMain + Extra9½ HoursCompletionist16½ Hours- 3881%4 PlatformsMy favorite Call of Duty game, although I also love Black Ops and MW2. This one just has my favorite gameplay, and my favorite stages. If you've read this far, you know I'm a slut for FPS games.
Street Fighter III: Third Strike - Fight for the Future
Main Story1 HoursMain + Extra6½ HoursCompletionist29 Hours- 3987%9 PlatformsMany fighting game players consider this the pinnacle of the genre, and I see why. I love everything about this game, and it's always my go-to 2D fighter. I mainly play as Ken or Alex, and it's always Alex or Makoto stage first.
- 4080%1 PlatformsNintendo 3DSI feel like this game is written off by most in favor of Super Mario 3D World, but not only do I prefer this entry; it's my favorite mainline Mario game. This was a sleeper hit for me and my brother back in 2011.
Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen
Main Story29½ HoursMain + Extra51 HoursCompletionist147 Hours- 4182%1 PlatformsGame Boy AdvanceThe first Pokemon game I played with some real strategy as a kid. I put a ton of thought into building my team, making smart move sets and trying to have lots of different type coverage. Always a nostalgic game to revisit.
- 4286%1 PlatformsPlayStation 5Marvel's Spider-Man brought to life a dream game for many, myself included. I used to play Spider-Man 2 for PS2 while I got my hair cut in the early/mid 2000s. The sequel to the 2018 game was even better, with the inclusion of Venom!
Armored Core 2: Another Age
Main Story15 HoursMain + Extra29½ HoursCompletionist32 Hours- 4373%1 PlatformsPlayStation 2Another thing about my gaming tastes: I fucking love big robots. Mechs are awesome. From what I've seen, the Armored Core series is the epitome of mech games. This was the first one I got to play, and I instantly loved it. Very grind-heavy.
- 4482%2 PlatformsPlayStation 3, Xbox 360I feel like you're either a Skate 2 person, or a Skate 3 person. I do like both, but I heavily prefer Skate 2. It's also got a special place for me, this was my main game for more than a year back in 2010-2011.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Main Story18½ HoursMain + Extra30 HoursCompletionist73½ Hours- 4581%1 PlatformsPlayStation PortableFFVII being one of my favorite games, this should come as no surprise. A really cool prequel with fun side missions and simple but effective combat. Not for everyone, but I love it.
- 4686%6 PlatformsI love Valve so much. I wish they'd make more games!
Portal 2 may have a more expansive story, but the creepy, lonely aura of this entry immersed me much more. Wish they kept the original "Xen" ending. - 4772%1 PlatformsGame Boy AdvanceOne of my favorite combat systems out of any game. It's so smart and the strategy involved is so fun. Fast-paced and sharp. I'm also a huge fan of the dreamlike visuals and wide color palette used.
- 4881%4 PlatformsUsually, I'm pretty vocal about my distain for "movie games," or games that feel like you're just walking instead of gameplay. But Shenmue's so-bad-they're-good cutscenes, unintentionally hilarious characters, and endearing world really stuck with me.
- 4973%4 PlatformsSuper enjoyable the whole way through, and the end is a total screwjob. Also, would a sequel be called XIII 2 (like Final Fantasy) or would it be called XIV?
- 5081%3 PlatformsLike Goldeneye 007 but better. Way better story, more interactive, cooler levels and setting. I've played (and still do play) way more Goldeneye than Perfect Dark, but I love this one so much.
