A little feedback on "HLTB The Game". Today 2024-07-14 the game "Game of Thrones - A Telltale Games Series" was included. I looked at the game after the round here on the site because I didn't know it and found it interesting. I noticed that only the "Single-Player" time was given and not 3 categories as usual. However, you had to enter these 3 categories (Main, Main + Extra, 100%) in the HLTB round. I therefore find it difficult to judge how the individual points are added up. My suggestion would therefore be to remove such games from the HLTB game altogether or to remove them from the site in general and put them in the typical 3 categories as with other single player games.

Kind of curious, is it possible to add a feature to see how many people have viewed your reviews?

Wondering again if it would be possible to add an option to filter our lists (backlog, completed, etc.) by a collection, like we can with platforms & storefronts? For example, games like Hyrule Warriors, Link's Crossbow Training, or Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland don't have "Zelda" in the title, so they don't show up when searching my lists for "Zelda". I could edit "Zelda" into a custom title for each one, but it would be way more convenient (and cleaner) if I could just choose a collection from a drop-down menu. I made a rough mock-up to show what I mean:

Reposting this feature request again because I just ran into another use case for it (searching my lists for games in the Ys series also brings up any game with "ys" in the title in any way, like in the word mystery, which prevents sorting by release date).

I'm curious, why do my submissions occasionally not count towards the "beat" count? For this particular case, it did count earlier even but weirdly it disappeared.

Site Update:

HowLongToBeat: The Game
- Data is now stored server-side for logged in users.
- Now supports cross-device for logged in users.
- Local data from previous games will be uploaded to the server next time you visit the game.
- Playing a game unregistered and then signing up will upload your data next time you visit the game.
- Visit the game from all devices you've played to upload those plays.
- The results page will now display the daily average of all users who played.
- Custom & Random games will display the average of that variant if other players have played.
- 200+ games have been added to the roster.

Note: Only the top 10 best games of any category where saved in your local storage so that means you can potentially have 30 games to upload. You will unfortunately lose your "total games" played because that number is now based on recorded games in the database.

When you mark the game as completed, it adds 1 to the Beat number. However, if the game calculates stats again before that submission is approved it will display the number based on approved completions. Probably what happened here.

Hello,

Is there a way to by default fill in today's date under 'Completion Date'? I know years ago it would default to today's date, but now it defaults to nothing.

Much appreciated!

What browser are you on? It still defaults to today's date for me.

I am on Chrome, the change happened for me maybe around 2 years ago?

Did some testing:
Chrome on PC: Default blank date
Edge on PC: Default blank date
Chrome on Mobile: Default blank date

That's so strange it still fills in the date for you. I've attached an image to show what it looks like when I add a game:

EDIT:
Upon further testing, I have found that if you go from "Playing" to "Completed", then it will indeed fill in today's date by default. However I don't use the "Playing" feature and instead just add games directly to my "Completed" list once I finish them. In the past this would have still auto filled today's date, however it no longer does this.

I was just looking for some games to play by browsing most popular on HLTB through search bar. What I've noticed is that when I choose a platform it will show most popular games that are released on that platforms by global stats.

For example, selecting Mobile as a platform will show that one of the most popular mobile games are Resident Evil 8, Star Wars KOTOR or Death Stranding that have little to no players on mobile platform. Additionally, mobile isn't even shown in HLTB stats of these games due to low number of reviews/players.

My suggestion is to change the most popular filter to show the most played games by the stats of a specified platform and not global statistics from all the platforms.

Is there a way to change the color of categories? My custom "dropped" and "multiplayer" being the same color isn't helpful when skimming my list, especially when they're teal and the default categories are green and blue.

Not that I know of.

However I'm not sure why are you using a custom category for "dropped" instead of the "Retired" category? Maybe you have a reason for doing so, but using the retired category would fix your issue since those are red and you would only have one custom category and avoid the confusion.

note: Retired is only available as an option if the game has already been added to your list

Site Update:

Platforms
- Added FM-7
- Added Vertex

Bugfixes
- I might have fixed the interesting bug that @Cock captured where Currently Playing would show games incorrectly when going from profile to profile.

Edit: Reverted bugfixes changes. Caused performance issues.

This is honestly a good point. Sometimes when looking up certain platforms there are some games on the top that you wouldn't associate with that platform - like Tomb Raider games for Game Boy advanced or Call of Duty for Nintendo DS. So it feels a lot of time you have to kinda skip a block of games that aren't really popular for a certain platform. So sorting popularity games for a platform based on the use baser of the game on that platform might be a good idea.

Also wanting to add, someone mentioned if we could have ratings on the completion page and I think this might be a really interesting idea to see which year/month was really great - on a global and personal level, instead of just seeing the number of completions. Here is a very rough mokup with some imaginary values.

I'm messing around with the scoring of HowLongToBeat: The Game.

Currently the average score is around 50%, I may make it a little easier to score higher. Trying to find the balance.

I'm testing variations of:
- Giving bonus points for getting it dead on, but then you can potentially score higher than 300.
- Giving points in 5 point increments which allows you to be a few hours off on lengthy categories.
- Wider ranges for point scoring.
- Allowing you to submit each category separately for context to others.

Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas? Nothing is sticking so far besides slightly wider ranges.

I play the daily round every day and would recommend increasing the score of the ratings. You can often make mistakes here and even small deviations often cost a lot of points. Example today with "Lost in Random". The rating of the game is 75%, I guessed 83% and only got 2 points. Of course, 8% deviation is a bit much, but I think if you want to change the points, you should start there.

Edit: If you look at the results, the problems often seem to lie with the ratings.

Really appreciate the feedback, I know you play most days.

It means a lot that someone enjoys the game enough to play daily.

Site Update:

HowLongToBeat: The Game
- New "Perfect" score animation & text, shows up when you get the exact answer.
- "Perfect" will display as 🟪 on share.
- Updated point system. The range is now up to 80% difference for Time Categories, 25% for Review Score. (60%, 10% previously)
- 80% range score will give you up to 22 points based on how close you are.
- A Perfect will score you 25 points.
- Updated "How To" to reflect changes.

I'm hoping this brings the average score up a little. I made it easier to get some points but just as hard to get a really high score.

I gave a random game a shot. Sharing is giving some undefined values.
