Hey,

there seems to be an issue with counting time in Chrome 59.0.3071.115 (64-bit). I start the counter, go in game, and after finishing come back to the open tab to find the counter lagging back anything between 40 and 60% (so for instance 40 min instead of 60). Reproduced with Rise of Nations and Neverwinter Nights 2, if it is of any help.

The issue does not seem to appear in Mozilla Firefox. Thanks in advance and congratulations for the great work on the website!

It's a JavaScript based timer at the moment, which means that it is dependent on how the browser handles it. It's completely broken on mobile because browsers are often suspended when in the background. Chrome is likely not getting priority as a process while a game is running, thus it lags behind real time. Perhaps firefox allocates resources differently. I have considered removing it or making it server-side but haven't done either yet. It is on my to-do list, but that's an explanation for now.

I have a couple of suggestions to improve search.

Search by genre and year would be good.

The ability to select multiple platforms/genres/years would be good.

If you look how Abandonia implements its game search, that is ideal.

To give a use case, I'd like to find say all RPG games between 1984 and 1999 on SNES/MD/PSX which take under 15 hours.

Hello ! I'd love ot know if there's any way to fix my "avg days to complete" time after importing some of my games from steam.
I have no idea where does it have the start date from :/

Yeah it looks like there's something off with it, my rough estimate is that the value should read 8 or 9 days. Part of me thinks it's just because you only have 2 completions, that there's perhaps a scaling coefficient that rounds down the result like that at low numbers? Try adding a few more completions and see if the value becomes more sensible, if it doesn't no doubt it'll be fixed.

I'd like for a way to add photos of our completions to our lists for proof and being able to share them without spoiling the games, really that's the only feature I'd like to see.

Basically making the "Post Your Wins" thread a feature of the site?

Hi all, I have just realized that I have Bayonetta for 4 different systems (Xbox 360, Xbox One via Backward Compatibility, Wii U and PlayStation 3). I have tried to add all instances to the Backlog list but after Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, clicking the Backlog button does not work. Trying to debug the frontend does not return any warning or error.

Is there any hard limit in the number of instances of the same game to be added to the Backlog list? Thank you in advance.

If there's a limit it's pretty big. I have over 20 entries for one game because reasons. I only ever add stuff with the Submit button though, not the way you're doing it.

Hi, I'm pretty new here and I need one post to create threads, so I guess I push it all here, mods feel free to split.

Now, after a day or two of polishing the collection I have a couple of ideas and some errors reports, so here we go:
Errors:
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition and Shadow Warrior remains on Steam import list even though already added.
Sort by Time - * in playthrough lists doesn't work at all! And why there are no columns showing playtimes? That's the point of whole site isn't it? :-)

Feature ideas:
More custom lists
Option for permanent ignore during import
Import from Origin, UBI, PSN...
Support for GoG
Mass support for gamer like me who comes with large library: e.g. set categories for multiple items with one click and so
Set default filters in Playthroughs view
HLTB could be a friend on gaming services, to costantly monitor game lists and playtimes
Adding already added games should result in error or replace or merge with current record instead duplication
Seeing the game is already added in the search result would be nice
Export all lists, not only completed
Auto update stats, finish date, etc via import or friend monitor

I know it's quite a lot, and I bet some of those were already asked for, it's just my two cents.
edit:> Oh boy, shame on me, I forgot the most important thing! Thanks to developers, this is great service. I'm superbusy and I use HLTB for years now to manage my gaming life and the other, no so exciting life full of business and family so they somehow fit together.:-)

Many of those are worthy suggestions! "Adding already added games should result in error or replace or merge with current record instead duplication", though, no. It's intentional that you can add a game more than once, to record multiple playthroughs if desired.

SabreCat> I guess you're right, that makes sense.

Sora1248> Ah, well, ok.. It's probably just not really intuitive but I tired now and you're right, I can see times now with 'Time - To Beat'. It's like "community view" while all the other 'Time - *' views are personal stats. Pity I can't save that as a default view, it's the most important piece of info which I use to chose what to play next (advantage of 168 items on backlog :-). I just never thought about HLTB as personal stats but more like shared encyclopedia of playtimes, so I was expecting 'Time - *' to sort from all available data, not own stats, if you know what I mean.
There's also something odd about the reverse sorting, the list starts with about 10 items with times in dark grey, which are not really sorted and after that it continues as expected, black times, sorted properly. What could it mean? Maybe rare items, with just a few playthroughs?

You can't save a preferred sorting option, but you can create a link or bookmark that takes you to it by tacking some stuff onto the URL: https://howlongtobeat.com/user.php?n=Ren&s=games&backlog=1&h=time_to_beat (where "n=[username]" can be replaced with anyone's). There are several options like that for what combination of lists to display and how, but they're completely undocumented outside of a forum post that's lost to the depths of time.

And yes, games that don't have times available will be stuck at the top or bottom of the list. Same for if they're missing whatever other info you choose to sort by.

Dredged up from the past

You can now jump to a sort option through the URL with &h=

Here is the list:
platform = Platform
top_rated_global = Rating - Global
top_rated_user = Rating - User
time_to_beat = Time - To Beat
comp_main = Time - Main
comp_plus = Time - Main +
comp_100 = Time - 100%
comp_speed = Time - Speed Main
comp_speed100 = Time - Speed 100%
invested_pro = Total - Progress
invested_sp = Total - Single-Player
invested_spd = Total - Speedruns
invested_co = Total - Co-Op
invested_mp = Total - Multi Vs
date_added = Date - Added
date_complete = Date - Completed
release_world = Date - Released
date_updated = Date - Updated
random - Pick 1 random game

For the sake of completeness, these are the (rather unsurprising) names used for the lists:

playing
backlog
replays
custom
completed
retired

You can include as many as you want by appending &[name]=1 for each. I'm not sure what the c=list_nocustom is in those example links or if there's anything else like that.

Yeah, I noticed, having bookmark is pretty much like just clicking the combo box, but thanks anyway. It's just professional deformation from my side, I'm senior IT staff and I have those ideas how to improve things constantly appearing on my mind..;-)

Sure, as a software developer in a former life I get that way too. It can still be useful the way it is though. I have one for my completions sorted by date for the monthly "what games did you beat this month?" threads and backlog+completed+retired for a full list of everything I have, like if I'm checking whether I forgot to add something I bought or not. When those lists get to be hundreds/thousands of entries long, not having to reload them every time you add another list to your selection or change the sort order is kind of nice.

Might I suggest adding PlayStation Mobile as a platform? PS Mobile, for those who don't know, was Sony's mobile games platform used by some of their phones and, until a few years ago, by the Vita. To save a long story, I started playing a PS Mobile game today on a whim, and when I finish it I don't feel like submitting it under Vita is technically correct. I just checked to see if it was even there, and apparently PlayStation Now is listed as a platform, so given this is the same sort of quasi-platform non-hardware category, I don't see why it couldn't be. Thanks!

Two titles in my backlog don't have release dates I've noticed. I like to sort by release date sometimes and that's how I noticed the following two are lacking these dates:

Batman: Return to Arkham - Release Date: October 2016
Vikings: Wolves of Midgard - Initial release date: March 24, 2017

The above release dates came up as first results on a google search for each game.

So, if somebody finds time to update these that would be cool. Thank you very much.

It his hard to notice unless you're looking for it, but there's a link called "Edit details" on the game page under publisher/platform/genre. From there you can edit game info, including release dates if they are missing or wrong.

I'm so sorry to keep popping up, but I just wanted to let you know that the image for the game I recently submitted, Monster Hotel, is wrong. There are actually two games called Monster Hotel, one for PS Mobile and one for iPhone/Android, and while I submitted my time and other information for the former, the picture is for the latter. This is totally my fault, I should've included a note when I was editing the game data. The closest I could find for a cover for the PS Mobile game was this, but that's tiny, so in case that doesn't work, perhaps the title screen would? This is all probably trivial in the grand scheme of things, but improbable as it may be it'd be unfortunate if the two were confused should someone want to submit their time for the iPhone game in the future. Then again, maybe not. Thanks.
