Site Update:
Clicking on Add to Profile on search will now list the playthroughs from your profile.

You can set them as playing, view the details, delete it, etc.

I will be adding this to game pages as well. Starting with search, let me know what you think.

The user statistics page selection controls have options for platforms and years that don't match any records. I swear that it used to filter out Game Release Dates by what release dates you actually had for completions, so I'm guessing it's all around stopped working right?

Hmm seems to be working on my profile. What exactly are you seeing?

"Game Release Date" - Uses the game's release for data, so how many games you completed that released in the provided year.

"User Completions" - Uses your "completion date" for data, how many games you beat in that time frame.

I'm talking about the year selection, for instance. The one that defaults to "All Time" but has options to select a specific year. It has years that don't make sense for me, like 1965. I have not beaten a game in 1965, nor beaten a game from 1965, so this option will not bring any results for me. I thought it used to only give options that made sense for me (e.g. the oldest year I could see for game release dates was 1981, the year Wizardry released, as that's the oldest game I have beaten).

I think that might be a bug or feature in how dates are handled. Because I can also see 1965. But the oldest game on the site is 1970.

It might be unrelated but I also discovered something by during an empty release date search using reverse order. The oldest game should be Spacewar, which the history books all agree on so that's fine. But the "oldest" game listed on the site is a professor Layton game. https://howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=70162. Crucially, one of the release dates says "December" and does not supply a year. So perhaps there needs to be a check on date changes to ensure the dates are completed in full before submission is generated instead of relying on this to be manually checked (lessens the risk of being missed during approval)? I've not changed submitted a correction so that it can be properly investigated.

Now that might be a coincidence, although it might also be the source of the "bug" (I'm leaning towards no, but I'm no programmer).

You figured it out.

It always expects a year to be tied to it. Never a month or day with no year.

That still doesn't explain why I have options for dozens of inapplicable years.

The year selection is simply now to 1965. It doesn't take data into consideration, simply shows all years.

The code is basically:
for ($i=date("Y"); $i>=1965; $i--) {
<option value="$i">$i</option>
}

Which means, get the current date and count backwards until 1965.

EDIT: Let me know if I'm being dense and still not understanding what you mean.

Thanks for the clarification. Sora is correct. I guess I was misremembering it taking my data into account.

Do consider that a feature request, then. It's not a big deal, but it would make stats a bit easier to look through.

Site Update:
The following links on the homepage are now active and will lead to showing you those titles:
Game(s) Added
Game(s) Updated
Note: These numbers are only updated every 2 hours on the homepage so they may not reflect the exact amount shown when clicked.

Search algorithm has been improved.
- Even Faster (Probably not even noticeable, but the numbers are there).
- Searching for titles that have GAMENAME (YEAR) will yield better results.

Example: Searching Doom, will now pull both Doom titles with (YEAR) to the top of the list.
This was a major problem with Steam games, a lot of them share the same name and aren't popular so they would be on page 2 or 3 instead of page 1 resulting in duplicates being added.

Heya guys. I asked this about a year ago, but I never got a yes, no, or maybe someday answer. Any chance of getting a Start Date field added, Everdred? Its as important to me personally to see how many days/months it took me to finish a game as it is the actual number of hours I spent in the game.

I finally bit the bullet and switched over here from a different site (I had been waiting to do so until there was a start date), and I'm currently just logging my start date under 'Notes'. Having a dedicated field for it would be ideal, though, especially since there is a completion date field already. I know you are busy, I am just curious if this feature is on the table at some point?

Hi! I'm an editor on Wikidata (a Wikipedia sister-project) and I was hoping I could get some help with adding HowLongToBeat IDs to games on Wikidata.

Essentially, the goal of Wikidata is to collect information on pretty much everything, and to connect other internet databases together, with everything licensed as CC0.

Ideally, I'd like to match games with their Steam IDs (there are already ~6000 or so games on Wikidata with Steam IDs) so we can get a few thousand IDs into Wikidata with a quick script.

Is there any way for me to get something like a JSON file with all the HLTB IDs and their corresponding Steam IDs, or a dump of the DB?

It can also be useful for HLTB, since you can import any other identifiers (PCGamingWiki, GOG.com IDs, Epic Store IDs, MobyGames, etc.) from Wikidata once they're connected, if that's of any interest.

For reference, here are my Wikidata profile and my bot's Wikidata profile :)

Thanks for the help!
