I've always used this site to get an idea of how long a game will take me. I always tend to be on the completionist side of things so it's useful to know what the damage is going to be. However, I have recently seen some other users making these blogs and they are really neat, so I've decided to start one for myself. I have an excel I use to populate the games I'm working on and which are next, but this allows others to see and help.
Half Year Update
2024 Goals1) Clean up last year's list (High on Life Play through #2, High on Knife, the DLC for the aforementioned game, PGA 2k23, Pentiment and Bioshock Infinite. Also working on getting in more time on Diablo IV)Done February '24!High on Life I beat shortly after it released last year. I loved it, it was so funny and I immediately wanted to get back and 100% it. I've started to go through it again on the hunter difficulty, which is the hardest, and I'm finding it a bit more than I bargained for. The bosses are tough and a lot of the jokes are not as funny the second time around. I may just not 100% it and go into High on Knife, which is a lot shorter. The thing is that is a $15 DLC and I'm hoping it goes on sale soon as I doubt I'll get much replay ability out of that. I also want to hit a level 100 in Diablo IV this year, which is a massive grind. I've got about 30 levels to go, but I wanted to try out the new season starting later this month.
Year started off pretty well with four games crossed off the list and plenty of time in Diablo IV.
2)Clean up Gamepass backlog (Hellblade, Masterchief Collection, Doom 3 and Doom Eternal)
Done August 2024I'll likely not get Hellblade 2 on release day, but I do want to finish the first game as I was enjoying that. Master Chief collection I adore. I've beat all of the Halo games 1-3 multiple times. I'm working on going through them again on series X with the updated graphics. I'm just finding it hard to make time for these with all the other games around.
Realizing as I move through the year that I need to be sensible with my choices, otherwise I'll not progress. Finished two and passed on too, as well as beating some other smaller games in between helpings of Diablo and CoD.
3) Catch up Gamepass 2023 releases (Hifi Rush, Cocoon, Jusant, Atomic Heart, Venba, Wo Long Fallen Dynasty, Starfield, Sea of Stars, Lies of P) + Modern Warfare III
Starfield I have on Steam, so I'm not exactly in a rush to beat it on game pass. But I would like to beat those other ones. Modern Warfare III I actually don't own yet and it's not on Gamepass. I just want to wait a bit for it to get patched up before picking it up. Huge Call of Duty fan here so I will definitely be going through that at some point and sinking some hours into the multiplayer.
4) Get back into my PS5.
Last year I played my PS5 for less than 10 hours the whole year. This is despite having quite a few games on it I am really wanting to play. That's why I want to clear my backlog on Xbox and start giving Sony some love. Once I get to this portion of the backlog I'll elaborate on these games as well.
Thanks for joining me on this backlog journey. I'll come back and update as I go.
Half Year Update
Half year update:
Going by the numbers:
1. Six Months/180 days
2. Nine games beaten (Pentiment, High on Knife, Bioshock Infinite, Foamstars, Cocoon, Contrast, Sea of Stars, Tekken 8, Hellblade: Senua’s Saga)
3. Two goals cleared (more on that later)
4. Remaining two goals have been worked on
5. Three games from 2024 (Pal World, Foam Stars, Tekken 8)
I laid out four gaming goals for the year:
1. Clean up 2022 releases (High on Knife, PGA2k23, Pentiment, Bioshock Infinite)
2. Catch up on Gamepass games (Hellblade, MasterChief Collection, Doom 3, Doom Eternal)
3. Catch up on 2023 games (Hifi Rush, Cocoon, Jusant, Atomic Heart, Venba, Wo Long Fallen Dynasty, Starfield, Sea of Stars, Lies of P) + Modern Warfare III)
4. Get back in to the PS5
Goal Review
One is done, and those were games I knew I was all in on. However, as I have gone through the process of making this blog, I’ve been looking at my media intake and that led to the realization that I’m just too busy to try and go through very single piece of content. I just can’t beat 30 games a year. I’m making some sensible choices about what I play and moving up some games I really do want to get to experience. The kicker is that I did not actually disclose the fact that I like to keep up with new releases 😊😊
5. Keep up with 2024 releases
Also recognizing that there is a fifth goal to work in some 2024 releases, I was able to get into Tekken 8 and Foamstars this during this year, but a lot of the content I have been keeping with has been Diablo or Call of Duty. Guess some things don’t change lol? I also bought Pal World at release and am interested to see the game after the most recent content update. Shadow of the Erd Tree just dropped and looks amazing, but I didn’t even give Elden Ring it’s due on release, so it will just need to get back in line!
When looking forward to the rest of 2024 I see there is the Diablo IV expansion, as well as the Starfield one that I already own as part of the collector’s edition. The Diablo expansion is something I’ll jump in on at release, but at this point I’m way too focused on clearing the backlog to think about going back to Starfield. A part of me is tempted to start more 2024 games, but the first four goals are more priority than the last one. The goal of this blog was to make progress on my backlog after all!

haha thanks. I've already beat GTA V a couple times. When VI hits I'll be all over it and nothing else so that's why I'm trying to clear the backlog of games I already own/pay for now. From the looks of it I'll have about a year and half to do so.

Hello sounds like your backlog journey is going alright and my question is which GTA was your favorite? My favorite was GTA 4 because of the gunplay.

It is! I'm always really busy in my work and family life so I usually chip away at games. Slow and steady wins the race :)
My favorite GTA is San Andreas. I always got a kick out of West Coast American culture so it's perfect for me. I played it on the original Xbox where it ran quite well. I put quite a few hours on that game and loved it. Still do.

January 2024 Goal
Working on clearing up the games I had told myself I would finish last year. This was High on Life Play through #2, High on Knife, the DLC for the aforementioned game, PGA 2k23, Pentiment and Bioshock Infinite.January 2024 Update
January 2024 Results
1) Bioshock Infinite: Finished chapter 31 of 40 and now in the final act of the game. I've got it lined up to where I can get in a nice long session in and finish it. There is still DLC to go through, but I'm more concerned with getting through the Gamepass games, so once I roll credits on the main game I'll consider this done. Especially since I want to go through Atomic Heart in the not so distant future, which also a retro futuristic vibe, albeit a different time period.
2) High on Life Playthrough #2: I beat this game too recently. I still remember all the jokes and since I'm trying to focus on games I haven't beat yet, I've decided to jump ship and move right on to High on Knife.
3) PGA 2k23: I was traveling for a bit this month so I've not had time to get into this one yet. Definitely want to get more time in it though.
4) Pentiment: What a great game. I'm almost near the end now. I'm confident I'll be able to finish it on my next session.
5) I've also been checking in on games on my Steamdeck such as Palworld and Forgive Me Father. Nothing that I want to modify my backlog for.
Although I haven't beat anything so far this year, I've been giving myself the freedom to bounce around and have two of the four games above pretty much beat. And one of them is a DLC that is just a few hours long so February is looking promising.

Current Goal: February 2024
Clearing up the games from last year I told myself I would finish last month! LOL! High on Knife, Pentiment and Bioshock Infinite should be pretty easy to finish. PGA 2K23 might require some skill, aka time, so that one might be a few weeks. The new season of Diablo IV also started last month.
Results: February 2024
1) Bioshock Infinite: Knocked this out relatively quickly. I was playing on hard and ramped up near the end, but luckily I was able to pass it without too many failed attempts at the last stage.
1A) Since I enjoyed the game, I also went through all the DLC. Between Burial at Sea Parts I & II and quick romp in Clash in the clouds, this added another 10 hours to my time in Infinite.
2) High on Knife: It was fine. Basically another helping of the main game. It was still funny, but the best content is the main game and I don't know that I would recommend dropping $15 on this.
3) PGA2k23: I sank some time into this one and realized that it was going to be a mission. I'm not very good at this game. I tried to play a few times and my short comings kept getting in the way. I went to training and realized that although I was having fun, this was going to take some time and I'm trying to progress on this and not get stuck on any one game.
4) Pentiment: Incredible! This game is not for everyone, but not many games make you feel something and this one can. Got a few good laughs out of it too.
These were very easy to get done as I had been playing these all of January.
I also picked up Diablo IV again. I played some stuff for the lunar new year/ Chiense New Year, which is part of the current season. Nothing to write home about. Actually pretty disappointed with the lack of significant XP earning opportunities. I guess with the game coming to Gamepass soon they don't feel like they need to prop up engagement with anything else, especially something that would cheapen the in-game XP economy.
The rest of the month was spent on Foamstars or TV and movies. I'm a big believer in not getting stuck in any one form of media, as it limits your perspective. I watched the second season of Foundation, which I had started in January. I also watched the Superbowl and went out with friends after. In terms of movies, I watched 42 and the recent Elvis, both of which were excellent, and long.
Overall a good month. Finished goal #1 for this year. Between the other content, grinding in Diablo and working on PC hardware I didn't make as much progress as I could have, but overall at five titles completed for the year (Infinite+ 2 DLCs, High on Knife and Pentiment) and 2 "skips" (PGA and High on Life play through #2. )
Going forward I intend to move on the 2023 games. I've got nine games on the list and limited time to get through them. I want to sell my series X and move into PC full time so some hard decisions will have to get made. I've already identified two titles that will likely get skipped, especially if I don't bail on the quest for Diablo level 100.
See you next month!

Current Goal for March 2024: Item 3 (Clearing up the Gamepass games from 2023.)
I have nine games in mind for this goal. Some of these are short (Cocoon, Jusant, Venba) and some should be relatively straight forward, but perhaps a little longer (Lies of P, Atomic Heart), so it's time to put fingers on joy sticks and get these done. Sea of Stars may require some time, being the completionist I am it may be a few weeks so maybe better to save that one for last and knock some other titles out of the way. Need to keep up on Diablo IV also.
Results: Finished one game and reintroduced the PS5
It was a fantastic month in terms of overall progress. I worked on the goal of clearing 2023 games and also moved somethings around in my apartment so the PS5 is now on the living room TV and it’s been getting more time as a result. As much as I’ve progress on yearly goals, progress on the Xbox specific games wasn’t what I planned.
I found time to finish Cocoon and restart my quest in Atomic Heart. I elected to restart it because I had kind of forgotten the lore and I was playing on the hardest difficulty. In the interest of time I turned it down and have been enjoying my time with the game, but I’ve also been playing a lot of Diablo IV. If I hadn’t reintroduced Diablo in the rotation this year I would have easily beat at least two other games. Diablo has been such a journey, and at several points I was not properly levelled and not having too much fun. I’m now in the high 70s on my main build, but I’m progressing and looking forward to upcoming updates.
The priority is finishing the Xbox games. I have spent way too much time in Diablo so dealing with the realization that I’m not going to finish them all. As such I’m deciding to skip Wo Long and put Diablo on a back burner for now. Although I have been enjoying the PS5, I think it’s time to put it on a hold of sorts and focus on getting through as many Xbox games as I can.
April is time to batten the hatches and BEAT games. Targeting 3 completions this month.

Current Goal for April 2024: Complete 3 games
Before I get the PS5 backlog going, I need to move through the Gamepass games. As much as I love Diablo, I’m also dealing with the realization that it’s holding up moving through the list. I’ve already decided to skip Wo Long and put Starfield on hold, for the time being at least.
Results: I did finish one game…. Which wasn’t even on my list of Gamepass games!
It was also busy month in terms of social and sports life. F1, NBA basketball and the recently released Fallout Show on Amazon. So I knew this month I was only going to be able to focus on a single game, and needing a break from Diablo IV so as not to be burned out before the major updates, I elected to start Sea of Stars.
When I first heard it was an old school JPRG, I was worried this would be a grind fest, but it’s been a really rewarding experience. I was also on a trip at the end of the month, which is when I found time to beat Tekken 8. The story is rather short so it wasn’t too hard, but it is an amazing game. Can’t wait to get time on it the main PC at home. That’s the sixth game this year and the second one released in 2024, after my completion of Foamstars. Of the others, Bioshock Infinite, High on Knife, Pentiment, Cocoon, three of four are from December 2022 on, so mostly recent games.
Pretty good month, but I really need to focus on Gamepass games. It’s my currently yearly goal I’m working on, and I really need to move off this goal which is just the second of four gaming goals for the year. That isn’t counting new releases, of which I have Final Fantasy: Rebirth and Dragon’s Dogma II on my radar. Another good year for gaming!

Current Goal for May 2024: Close out THREE Xbox games.
The priority is finishing the Xbox games other than Diablo.
Results: Two completions. Finished up Sea of Stars and Contrast.
This month saw the reintroduction of the occasional Call of Duty into the rotation. I’ve been extremely busy at work and socially, again lots of Formula 1, but I have been working on Sea of Stars, and I’m very happy I did. Fantastic game. Clinched it near the end of the month for the seventh game beat this year.
Sea of Stars was quite an adventure. It was nearly 50 hours, and that is leaving quite a bit of content undone. I did jump back into Modern Warfare III from time to time to take advantage of some bonus XP weekends. After that I decided to try Contrast, an old game I recall from the early Xbox 360 days. It was ok, some decent puzzles and an attempt at story telling along the way, but it was a limited experience, even for its time. A few sessions, assuaged by some easy achievement points, led to the eighth completion of the year.
With the upcoming Diablo IV update, major changes are coming to the game. Lots of sports and social activities on the horizon, and work has already been making it difficult to find time to game this year. Seems unrealistic to target of three games in one month, but I’m going to do it again.

Current Goal for June 2024: Same as May, which was to finish up three games. Focusing from item 2 [Clean up Gamepass backlog (Hellblade, Masterchief Collection, Doom 3 and Doom Eternal)]
Having beaten two games in May, I got a bit confident. I’ve been busy socially and getting the occasional Call of Duty or Diablo in, but I didn’t really get to game as much as I would have liked. Working on this blog has made me realize that I have a lot going on, and if I’m going to make any meaningful progress I need to keep making decisions about what is really important to me.

On that note, I did really want to finish Hellblade, so I did. Can’t say it lived up to my expectations, and I don't feel like I need to see the sequel. It is very well made both technically and in terms of story craft, but it wasn't very enjoyable. That makes the ninth completion inside the first 180 days of the year. I did start some of the games before this year, but after doing the some thinking for the half-year-review post I’ve decided to revaluate progress overall. I wasn’t able to beat three games in June, but I was able to get good value out of my time with the games I did get to. Thinking of making some big changes in July.

Current Goal for July 2024: Same as May and June, which was to work on item 2 [Clean up Gamepass backlog (Hellblade, Masterchief Collection, Doom 3 and Doom Eternal)]
June was an eye opener for me in terms of what I have going on and where I need to in terms of goals. Hellblade was definitely one that I didn’t get return on in terms of enjoyment. When looking at Masterchief Collection, I do love Halo, but I’ve also beat all but one of these games already, and put countless hours in the multiplayer. I think MCC is safe to slot into the “will gladly play again on day,” so on to DOOM!
Results
July was rough. Barely got into Doom 3, which by the way is a tremendous game. They really don’t make them like they used to. Again, I just have so much going in terms of work and taking care of myself, I just don’t have the bandwidth for these like I would like. Haven’t been watching sports or movies much either, although I have been keeping up with House of the Dragon season two, which so far has been a let down. Not really getting sucked into it like I thought, but hoping it can finish strong like season one did. At this point just happy to get anything in at all.
