To celebrate my 999th post on the forum, and 10 years as a member of HL2B, for my 1000th post I thought it might be fun to revisit my first post in this splendid place:
https://hl2b.com/forum?&thread=127
As you can see, I was slightly confused by something in the interface (which has long since changed thanks to Everdred’s ever-increasing expertise), but was so impressed by the site, and the forum’s friendliness and lack of toxicity, I thought I’d stick around.
This is now the only gaming site I regularly visit and participate in, I’m no less impressed, and I feel honoured to finally be part of the 1K Club, of which I am only the 20th member :)
How about you? What was your first post about? Care to share a link to it?

Hi, I'm new here. I've sussed out how it all works quick enough, but I'm just wondering what the blue [P] button next to my listings of backlogged games does? I know it says 'Playing' on the mouseover, but what nefarious deed does it actually do when I click it?
Thanks!
PS: I came to see how long it would take me to complete Lone Survivor and decided it looked like a nice place to stay. I've actually been looking for somewhere where I can publicly catalogue all my games that isn't the bloated buggy corporate nightmare that is the Gamespot website. To be able to record how much of my life I've wasted/will waste on this ridiculously time-consuming hobby is a real bonus too. Nice one.

Ha, today marks my second HLTB anniversary so this thread is extremely well-timed for me. My first post was just jumping right on in once I saw the forum did seem like a nice place. I do remember finally finding the intro thread a few days later.
But yay my first very thrilling post:
Which was of course on the 'games you're currently playing' thread.

I've got Super Mario RPG and Dragon Quest XI S going with any consistency. Technically Final Fantasy XIII as well but been a while since I last played it

And Now, a retelling of my first post
"The Wii has the most games in my collection at 46 (20% of my growing and bustling collection) and behind that, the Nintendo Switch on which I own 37 games (16% of my collection) and finally, the best of the Microsoft Xbox consoles, the Xbox 360 with a cool 34 games (15%, but I don't need to tell you that you've been paying attention)."

My first post was on the November games to beat 2017 thread: https://howlongtobeat.com/forum?&thread=1199
I did finish A Link Between Worlds that month, as well as Pokémon Sun which wasn’t in my original plan lol.
My goal is to at least finish The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds this month.
I'm also planning on trying to finish Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia and Assassin's Creed Syndicate, but those may be unlikely since its a busy month for me.

Interesting thread. This was my first post. I made it roughly three years after I joined the site. Back then, I was using the site for the backlog feature and stuff and I had never really been a chat/forum user before. Never really cared actually. Then I was lurking the forum for a while, reading stuff, getting game ideas and suggestions and stuff. And finally, in the fall of 2017 I finally posted something. As they say, the rest is history. ☺
Edit: The funny thing is that I kinda still try to do that, to complete as many older games as new ones. The difference is that back then I probably had less than 100 games in my backlog. I now have 598. But I still try to play games from different eras and systems to keep it interesting and go through my old stuff.

Lots of HLTB special occasions going on right now. I just hit eight years on the site relatively recently. 🎈
My very first post was in the "What game did you spend most of your time on?" thread. That same thread is also the location of one of my most recent posts, in which I shared very similar information (I find it highly unlikely that my 303 hours with Halo: Reach will ever be surpassed).
My first exciting post was in the "Show off your gaming stuff!" thread, in which I showed off my gaming stuff. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective), I had to leave the site in shame afterward when I discovered that one of my friends had drawn penises in the dust on one of my shelves, and they were highly visible in some of the pictures I shared!
Gaming Lair circa 2014:

Once my shame had faded from HLTB memory, I returned five years later and posted in a now-deleted thread, but it seems like it was about listing your favorite games since I listed Breath of the Wild and Final Fantasy XII.

Wow ! That's a nice clean gaming room. I wish I had a dedicated gaming area... I mostly play in our family living room or on my PC which is more organised like an office than a proper gaming space. Maybe one day...

That was back in my parents' basement. Mayhap I'll revive that gaming stuff thread and post my current setup.
I also do the vast majority of my gaming in the living room (because the couch is very comfortable), but my office is also set up to accommodate gaming.

Hmm, I can't believe I used my first post for a rant. The shame. I'm usually so non-confrontational.
I ranted about Persona 5 in "What is your unpopular gaming opinion?".
https://howlongtobeat.com/forum?thread=1537&page=2&jump=to#post43347
That was after around 1.5 years of just reading through the forum, without posting myself.

Persona 5 is more of a looooong list of chores than an actual fun game. It's a horrible design choice to make the main quest/story 100h long instead of, like any sane game designer would opt for, have a maybe 30h main quest/story and then 70h (or however much) of optional side quests.

I found this forum when I got back into gaming after a long long long hiatus. My first post is in the Game of the Month thread a year ago (something which I still love to participate in -- I found many games in old posts which I decided to check out to reacquaint myself with gaming again).
So I wrote this in the Hades thread. I love rereading this because it seems that Hades has actually helped me deal with death in games a bit more. It helped me realise that you learn something every time you die in a game, it will help you get better. Nowadays, I don't shy away from games when I die a few times. The Messenger, Elden Ring and Bloodborne are examples of games I played the past year where I've died for an hour or more in a row.
I think I'm going to give this game a go as well. I really like what you're all writing about it. There are so many elements that sound great to me that I think I can overlook the fact I don't like to fight and die in games.
Normally when I die three or four times, I put the game away and give up. I'm hoping that Hades will get me out of this mentality, since dying is the purpose. If anything, you only get stronger as you die.
Let's see if this game works for me. I'm going to buy it today to try it out!

Congrats on your 1000th post and HLTB-iversary! One of my earliest posts (I used to post so much back then!) was to ask what the Retired section was for, and to say that time spent on retired games shouldn't be labeled as "Time Wasted," which it used to be.
My first post was on a thread about the worst game you've ever played and I complained about Manhunt 2 for the PS2. I really have no memory of this game anymore, which seems like a good thing!

I'm just now going back through all the games I've played and written about since I've been keeping track -- 2.5 years worth or so -- and I'm nowhere near 1000! And I consider myself to play a lot of games.
The absolute worst/most disappointing one I recall in this time is Manhunt 2. I loved Manhunt 1. Manhunt 2 introduced a cheap plot trick for dumbing down the violence. With its lame and predictable story, ridiculously stupid and incomprehensible AI, and the reduced weirdness of the gangs and characters, Manhunt 2 just plain sucked.

My first post was on the What game are you currently playing at the moment? thread: https://howlongtobeat.com/forum?&thread=18
I created my account in 2019 but haven't been active until I decided to search how long would it take to complete Super Robot Taisen OG Saga. I did complete the game after all.

I don't post on the forum very often. I hop on, update what I'm playing, my completions, backlog, etc. Every few months I decided to look at the current forum posts and decide to post something. That's how I've only made 40 posts in 2 years. (Now technically 41.)
The first post I made is on this thread: https://howlongtobeat.com/forum?&thread=1323
It fits pretty well with this post as the thread is about how you discovered HL2B. It took me about 4 months until I decided to post something. It took me that long because I avoid social media like the plague because most of them are unproductive and just waste your time. (The post is wrong BTW, I actually made my account in January 2020.)

I know I'm a little late to this thread but I want to post anyway.
I joined HLTB in December of 2019. I was watching a youtube video and it mentioned this website. I went to the website to check how long the games I was playing took to beat. Then I noticed you could log all the games you've completed, beat and you still have to beat. I had been having problems not remembering which games I still have to beat, so I created an account. I checked out the forums and I found out that the topics are interesting and that the community is non-toxic and friendly. Ever since then I've been checking out the forums every few days to see if there's anything interesting. Finally decided to post something myself and I thought this would be a great place to start.

I haven't been super active in the forums (still under 100 posts) but I feel like I've been picking up steam lately. My first post was in the Site Feedback thread on 11/6/2019, two days after joining the site:
It looks like I joined and then immediately told Everdred how to change his website lol. We did end up getting the storefront update which is very handy, as well as multiple custom tabs. I still think having multiple sorts would be useful as well as combining multiple games into one entry in our backlog. Something like a mini-collection that averages ratings and adds play times together.
Would it be possible to split the PC platform to mention which storefront you have the game on? Examples being "PC - Steam" or "PC - Origin" or something like that? It would also be nice to be able to have multiple custom tabs as well as being able to use multiple sorting options. An example of that would be to first sort by rating and THEN sort by time to complete. It would also be cool if you could combine multiple games together into one entry and which would average the rating and add the completion times together. This could be useful if you want to play all of the games in a series back to back. Maybe this is all asking too much but they would be nice-to-have features to organize my games list to figure out what I should play next.

Mine was on a Steam Summer Sale Damage Control thread from 2017! I made my account some time prior to that, and I guess I found it fun to talk about my irresponsible spending habits at the time 😅
(Let's be honest, I'm better know, but still on the irresponsible side)
Also, I envy you, past me. It's been a while since the dollar's been that cheap! 106.930CLP are now closer to 90-95USD 😭
(Let's be honest, I'm better know, but still on the irresponsible side)
Well, my wallet just took a really heavy shot and is in the emergency room
I spent 106.930 CLP (161,5 USD) on around 35 games (and a gift for my sister)
My backlog was already a mighty foe, but now I'ts becoming unkillable

I was just listing all the games I finished in August 2022. 2022 was the highest number of games I ever finished, I managed to reach up to 200. I've actually been on the site since 2018 but didn't start posting on the forum until 2022.

Let's see my first post was this about finding the How long to beat podcast 4.5 months ago. Now I have to start listening to more of those awsome episodes.
