Did errands for the kitchen lady and hide booze for the english teacher. MAde it into town and won the boxing championship. Preps tried t get out of paying me 1000 bucks so they gave me a coselation prize... a lighthouse. Feel I did alot better with that

Game crashed on me and there some wonky controls for the skateboarding. Also finding that the music overlaps with the audio and really like the some subtitles. With these issues still enjoyng the game and getting some laughs out of it

Not much today just did some jobs around the area
— 09/04/2024 9:47 PM
took pinky on a date, started the bike races and egged tads house
— 09/08/2024 9:27 PM
okay had one more session:

Defeated the preppies and reached the third chapter

So enjoying bully for what it is however there are some annoying outdated design choices which hampering the game for me. The big one is a lack of either an autosave or a universal save (i.e. save anywhere). My game has since crashed a extra two more times (in the last session). Luckily the first I had early on so didn't lose too much but the second I lost the last of the bike races and kart race so will have to repeat. Not sure the cause but it's putting a damper on the games fun.

The good however is I think this showed that it was possible to change the settings of the GTA games and it still worked. It's got the same style of humour as the old GTA games. Bit hit and miss some parts feel outdated but unlike Sunset overdrive I feel the humour can stand on it's own. Missions are short and work itself into the time frame between classes. The time functionality works well and punishes in a non determinant way for truancy (still possible to do things without the people getting in the way). I hope I can get through the game without losing too much progrss cause I am enjoying the game and looks I've made decent progress already in the game

FYI for people I link to the first game if there are remasters so things like the scholarship edition will not be displayed in your post but the original Bully will be. I can change this in the future if people would be prefer to invert it (i.e. link to the latest)

Okay had my first session of bully:

Reached the 2nd chapter.

Yeah so this def feels like a PS2 era GTA game. Different setting but it works. Feels a bit outdated these days. Two things though annoying me. No save in any location functionality you have to save at specific points and you can't get subtitles at least on the PC version. Feels like the first game by rockstar to utilize the time mechanics in the game with specific quests not available until different times of the day. Early days but will see where the game goes

For far too long, the bullies of Bullworth Academy have been stealing lunch money and making life miserable for students. Big pull for me this month due to Itchmas:

1st July - Folder Dungeon - 28m 32s
11th July - Oceanwork - 29m 37s
13th July - Mr. Platformer - 1h 10m 38s
14th July - Pretty coo' - 29m 12s
17th July - Sunset Overdrive - 23h 57m 18s
17th July - Day of the Hamster - 1h 1m 15s
18th July - The Moon Looks Beautiful Tonight - 1h 18m 28s
20th July - Red Snow - 9m 57s
22nd July - Mobius - 55m 8s

Retired
15th July - Yurivania 1: Uhaul of the Night - 52m 21s - Got stuck in the cave at the bottom as the items refused to work within the cave

Ranking:
9th Pretty coo' - Basically an undercooked take on pikmin. Needs more work to make enjoyable. Alot of waiting around in that game
8th The Moon Looks Beautiful Tonight - Standard visual novel with no interaction. Good visuals but the story didn't compel me and was bored throughout
7th Mobius - Interesting concept using a mobius loop as it's level but it just doesn't work well as a platformer and needed to be a different style of game
6th Red Snow - a Fun concept that could work in a bigger game however it quickly get repetitive
5th Sunset Overdrive - A great base game with fun traversal built into it and used extremely well in combat however it is surrounded by vapid characters, boring quests and outdated humour
4th Oceanwork - A rather decent but shallow mining game
3rd Folder Dungeon - A short but fun rogue like doesn't do anything new but great visuals and design
2nd Mr. Platformer - A great tribute to atari platforms with 40 levels.
1st Day of the Hamster - Loving tribute to old style point n clicks with a helpful hint system attached although still has a few moon logic puzzles

Okay my ranking but first the only retired game of the month:

Yurivania 1: Uhaul of the Night - Got stuck in the cave at the bottom as the items refused to work within the cave

8th - Pretty coo'
Completion July 14, 2024
Main+Extras 29m 12s
Notes 17 pigeons
Review
An undercooked take on pikmin. The game does a poor job explaining itself and does explain well how to get pigeons to help. Once you do get help though it takes ages for the pigeons to finish a taks and you ultimately have nothing to do. It ends up a long game of waiting.
3/10

7th - The Moon Looks Beautiful Tonight
Completion July 18, 2024
Main+Extras 1h 18m 28s
Review
A standard visual novel which did not pique my interest. There was no interaction in the game and was a straight line throughout. It had good graphics but I was uninterested in the story completely
5/10

6th - Mobius
Completion July 22, 2024
Main+Extras 55m 8s
Notes Not all coins
Review
An interesting concept that doesn’t work for the style of game chosen. The mobius style could work for a puzzler especially with the ability to shrink and expand the mobius to create different routes but as a platformer it ultimately just becomes a fight with the camera. This is not helped with the floaty controllers and delayed responses when running.
5/10

5th - Red Snow
Completion July 20, 2024
Main Story 9m 57s
Notes Wave 6: About 500,000 points
Review
A fun concept that needs more fleshing out. It repeated itself a bit too much but the concept would work quite well with more levels and perhaps a time constraint added onto it
6/10

4th - Oceanwork
Completion July 11, 2024
Main+Extras 29m 37s
Notes 1 of 2 endings
Review
A rather decent mining game made quickly as a ludum game. Fun but rather shallow overall
7/10

3rd - Folder Dungeon
Completion July 01, 2024
Main+Extras 28m 32s
Notes 3 playthroughs
Review
A short but fun little rogue like. It doesn’t do anything special with the format and there's a limit on interaction but it is well designed and is a fun and easy play.
7/10

2nd - Mr. Platformer
Completion July 13, 2024
Main+Extras 1h 10m 38s
Notes All levels, High Score: 1380
Review
A great tribute to atari platform games with 40 levels. Some duds but a lot very well made and a great and fun game
8/10

1st - Day of the Hamster
Completion July 17, 2024
Main+Extras 1h 1m 15s
Review
A loving tribute to old stylee point n clicks. It still has the moon logic of the old games but offers a hint system. Some nice and interesting little puzzles are included and it’s a bit picky in where you stand for the metal detector but overall a rather fun little game.
8/10

Overall a decent itchmas. No big stand outs or low downs. I think the only consistent thought really is that most people didn't enjoy Pretty coo' which I agree but it's not the worst itchmas game. Nothing there was a huge standout to me but very few bad games this time

So final game done Mobius. Unique idea which I don't think works for a platformer. A mobius strip which can be twisted expanded or shrunk. Using this for a puzzle would be quite cool I feel but as a platformer it just overcomplicated things especially working with the camera to find where you character is. It is not helped with a slow delay and floater controls. I'll get the reviews up at some point and ranked but that itchmas done for me

Story is an important element for me for a game so if the story sucks it's gonna hurt the game in terms of my opinion. I'm glad you liked the game and can switch off the story and just enjoy the loop which I did think was well done I couldn't so that's why the game scored lowish (still positive but not high)

I'm not going to dismiss half the game in my critique because I didn't like it. The flaws still exist whether I ignore them or not

Sunset Overdrive
Completion July 17, 2024
Main+Extras 23h 57m 18s
Notes All side quests, collectibles and challenges
Review
+Fun traversal methods effortlessly merged into the combat
+Great array of wile and wacky weapons
+Bright and colourful world to explore
-Humour is outdated and lacks any big laughs
-Poor quest design hampers a lot of the games fun
-Unlikeable characters throughout the game
Overview:
Sunset Overdrive is a game with a great base but with a poor structure. It has some of the best traversal methods in an open world game I have played. Where you bounce and grind across the world with relative ease. This traversal is then brought into the combat and it rewards you for constantly moving and grinding. Some of the arenas however feel a bit limited but overall the combat is excellent presented and it is fun to play once you get into it. It unfortunately surrounds it’s base with some bad design choices which hampers the game. In the end the game tries to be funny with an indifferent main character but he just comes off as flippant and annoying. The humour is also based on referencing and none these references are out of date so it doesn’t land. It tries a lot of meta humour which feels more like an easy out for certain plot points. It is not helped that the quest design falls into the three annoying types of quests: fetch, escort and tower defence. I wish I liked Sunset overdrive with it’s excellent combat and traversal but found it hampered by it’s poor story and quest designed

So just played Red Snow thats was a pretty decent proof of concept. It needs a bit further flesgin out as it quickly got reptitive but the concept I though was good. A snowboarding game where you have to kill your way down the mountain. I feel that a time limit on the game would of worked wonders as you just repeat until death. I also at times had performance issues but nothing too serious. Fun concept and nice and short

Okay just played The Moon Looks Beautiful Tonight and maybe i'm not in the right mindset or just not into Visual Novel but I was rather bored of TMLBT. The visuals were great and the geuss the writing was there? But nothing interested me at all about it. There was interaction and the story didn't at all pull me in. In the end I was just going through the motions for that one. It reminded me of Lookouts from last year but I'm going to be a lenient on it this time. If the story didn't pull me in then I not gonna score high

So finished Day of the Hamster and gotta say that was a well made tribute to old style point n clicks. It had it moments of confusment for me but for the most part the hint system helped. A found the Hamster Maze actually rather enjoyable. I did have issues with turning but the input setup worked for me and I enjoyed fixing the path to get to the end. For me it was the metal detector which caused issues as I found it rather picky in where to stand to pick up an item I need

Okay so did get time to play sunset overdrive before the match (england will never win a trophy will they?) and was able to beat the game and the oil rig DLC. I'm going to hold off my full opinions until I finish the last DLC is done so hopefully tomorrow but if not at least the end of the week

So onto the second dlc. Released Lou and Fiona and did the two side quests. Looks like 3 more quests. Also got all the UFOs for both DLCs and just got 4 challenges left to complete (not trying to gold them just get through them)

...And I'm done with Sunset Overdrive. Honestly I wish I liked this game more. The traversal was excellent and was neatly wrapped into a fluid and fun combat system. It took some time getting used to hit but by the end your bouncing and grinding your way around the map increasing your combo into double if not triple digits. It had a great base and you can tell they took what they learned for traversal from this game and used it for the spider man games. Unfortunately the rest of the game was severly lacking. The humor is that weak style of humor where if you reference something then it must be funny or make a meta jab at the game. It got really grating by the end and dampered the mood for the game. It also had poor mission design relying too much on fetch quests, escort missions and tower defense levels. It a solid base but poor execution I geuss in the end. I will try write up a full review in the coming days

Tried Yurivania 1: Uhaul of the Night but was unable to beat it as there was a bug in the cave where the items wouldn't work so had to give up there. Tbh I wasn't really enjoying the game. Nothing really piqued my interest and it was to me just a fetch quest. It didn't help that the controls felt floaty and had times where I feel off the platform cause my character slipped which just added to frustation. Also maybe it's just my controller but the A and B buttons reversed so A was B and B was A so not sure about the configuration on the controller

So just played Pretty Coo' and wasn't very enthused by the game. It did a poor job explaining what you needed to do and I spent ages just trying to figure out how to get the pigeons to follow me. After that I just spent it waiting while the pigeons destroyed the barriers. It was basically a game of waiting. Maybe it'll been better with more fine tuning but ultimately I just found it boring

Just finished Mr. Platformer yeah that was a well made platformer. A few stinkers but I liked the way that obstacles are removed if you hit them. Good decent challenge and was able to do all the levels

So finally got round to playing again. So Oceanwork (Got the paid off ending) felt like an old popular game on groundworks where you go and dig for ore and upgrade so you can take more damage or go further so the more pricer ore. Yeah this was a good 3D version of it. It doesn't have the same depth but does at least have an end goal. Again the goal seems far but it quickly becomes faster and the loops come easier to do. Have to say i enjoyed it for a Ludum game
